Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

ive heard that people either love them or hate them..several farms used them in colo..they just couldnt get anything else to grow..lowe ranch tried to line their driveway with globe lights and under cover trees..they all died until they got the rissian olive trees..they had benchs under some of them for people to sit at their horse shows..they might have had thorns but i dont remember that unless they were a different strain..

I think I told you that those buffs will grow on you. The eyes will be OK. I don't know why they do that. The cross of the two bloodlines is where I got that. I hope they grow out nice for you, if so you can take some to the ABA National at Knoxville in Dec. With all the shade you have they should keep good color. Back in Oklahoma I have 2 and a half acres and I only have 4 trees. That's a problem for me.

LOL. We do have a lot of shade. I hope the shade helps them this summer when the humidity & temps get unbearable. The eye color is beautiful to me. I know with some of my mutts as they age out their eyes change drastically, often going from amber/brown to red. I will miss that pretty green though.

I will see you this weekend at the show. I am just coming to look & maybe learn a thing or two. Then its back to trying to cobble together another chicken house in the woods.

Here is one of the ones that hatched on Easter. He has the best structure, imo, and I am anxious to see how he turns out.

And so far I am liking the looks of these 2 "pullets" that hatched about 7-10 days later

Trying to get a couple of pictures to show feathering and color, but not cooperating too much tonight. Here are a couple when the were somewhat still.

I have at the moment over 100 chicks. I only have three coops. My poor DH can only work so many hours a week to feed these fella's...lol

By October it is going to be full. Orps take up some serious room. I also have Wyndottes. They are huge birds too.
That's so true they are big birds. I need to get a bigger coop too.

Is there a good source for breed standards for Buff Orpingtons? For some reason I can only find standards for Black, Blue, and White. I've got three chicks that are 2 weeks old today.

One of them has wings that are feathering in very dark for a Buff, I feel-- almost brown! Also, I don't know what color their legs are supposed to be. It's not that I plan to start breeding them or anything, more that I paid $$ for the words "buff orps" and want to make sure that's exactly what they are...
