Got a few photos in the misting rain of Max's (EBO) cockerel and pullets out of SOP hens , at 5 1/2 months old.

We have been way too busy arranging and getting new fence together so we can move the buffs into the big barn for the winter with an addition of a covered winter run and use the buff hut for the summer...the whites will go on the right side and buffs on the left, the australorps will be going to vans ..he has been after me for 2 years for those birds..

Jumbo tron ..they are angry at me because I will not let them out in the 3 acres today, there are 3 hawks sitting out there..

New fence being assembled, it needs to be leveled ..after every panel is leveled we will start the other side ..we have enough to lengthen this by one more panel..

More angrey birds..they cant go out to the orchard today..

Oops something went wrong:D
They are very pretty.

Couple of my young blacks

Young buff cockerel

Another young cockerel. His comb is large and flopping to the side.

They are looking very nice. I am fond of the blues and blacks too. Are your blacks English or do they have some English in them?

I can tell your pics were taken on a bright day. I know when I take pics it more often than not fades out the birds color, that is if I am lucky enough to snap a pic of them standing still. Yours look really nice to me. I think I would watch the one with the drooping comb to see if it corrects itself or continues to droop. I don't think its a desirable trait so he may turn out to be one you decide to cull.

I am much like you: new to Orps. I am going to pick my favorites, show them and try to talk to a judge afterwards to see what is good and what needs work with them. I think its the only way to learn. Good luck

I think he is going to be the first cull of the group. He is huge but his comb looks wrong and his tail end looks wrong. But really I don't know what I am talking about. Just basing it off of looks. That is my plan as well. Pick a few and show them to get my feet wet and try to get as much info as I can. Just registered for my first show this afternoon. Showing a little pullet who I think is very nice quality and size. I don't have a lot of birds so I am working on leg banding/color coding all of them to keep track of who came from where. I also need to do numbered bands for show registering. Didn't know they would need a numbered leg band or wing band and these birds were too young when I was NPIP tested so the tester didn't band them. I guess this is stuff people who deal in lots of birds and shows know about. I am just learning as I go.

I don't think the blacks have any english. They are very round and fluffy looking. I can't wait to see what they look like grown.

That boy is looking great ! So are the whites. You'll love that chain link run once you get netting over it. The hawks are circling here too today in the misting rain. My 2 new covered runs are almost finished. This is the time of year for young hawk strikes.Fortunately Monty has already taught the 3 and 4 week old babies to hide. When he growls, everybody vanishes under the hydrangeas.

They are simply gorgeous!! How nice that your birds are able to free range.. mine are under strict lock down and only able to have a bit of freedom when I am able to stand right by them.

We might try your microfilament wire over it..you would think that construction workers could draw a plumb line but they just threw it up..they assured me that they will be back to make it all square and level..now I need to get this constrution leftovers out of this pen finnaly..Im never sure if they have a use for it or if its just something for me to pick up..

For some reason, I am not able to do multi reply. I thought my ipad was the problem but, it is the same with the regular computer...oh well...

Aveca, I love your birds! They are beautiful and in such great condition!

The wire panels are an excellent idea. We are trying to figure out how to create some portable, safe runs for our birds until we eliminate the bobcat problem. Did you make the panels, or are they available for purchase from the stores? So far, we have been using 4 feet tall x-pens to keep the birds confined, and am thankful that their weight is preventing them from jumping over. We need to come up with a good solution before I have full blown mutiny..
