Monofilament and fishing line the same thing.....right?

Aveca- the whites are very nice but would soon look like mud balls here

I would also think the whites would stand out more for a predator and harder for them to hide. We have not been plagued with predators from above but have had our share of ground dwelling ones but like Dragonlady said: a good hot wire keeps them at bay.

People tell me that about whites..This is my first time with white birds, and buffs. I have owned blk orps and australorp especially for a long time...so fort knox is going up LOL! the only birds we have lost were out free roaming outside fenced areas.out in the viet cong ..the fox are very fast..especially when they are denning..they havnt been around latly, the neighbor said there is a glut of feild mice..so maybe its keeping them occupied..

pretty sure they are same..like weedeater string..Im just not going to do it after all...never lost one to a hawk...so I probably dont have to...Im sure they will be eyeballing the babies next spring..they tell me buff babies are on the menu too..

funny with all of the rain we had early on this year the whites arnt more of a dirt pile..but I just try to keep them in very clean shavings .. so far they are like giant cotton balls. thou they do have some dust bath dirt on them..

I have sparkly pipe cleaners on my wires as well. These young hawks are really stupid though, and will chance anything. Once a hawk is on the ground, it is very fast, and can hem up birds.Better safe, than sorry.

Never would have thought of pipe cleaners; will definitely get some. The plastic ribbons tare off a bit to easily with the strong winds we get once in a while.

Are the hawks after the little ones? or are they able to take full size adults? I was thinking that; the hawk would have to be the size of an Ostrich to be able to lift Monty; he is huge!!

The Peregrines will hit anything .Hawks don't have to be able to lift their prey. They will tear chunks off to take to their chicks , or to eat. The end result is a dead bird. Not chancing maimed, or dead birds.

we have some called sharp shinned hawks, and they are known for landing and then chasing their prey into the bushes or under cars, buildings etc. I had one run down one of my serama .... he hasnt ever come back tho....

dont know about hawks, but the orchards use Mylar tape or ribbon in the trees. wonder if it would confuse a hawk

Hope alls well with you redrenier..havnt heard from you in a while

all is well!! been very very busy running myself into the ground. have not had time to just sit for a bit even. going to put myself in the hospital if I dont watch it lol Hey those whites are looking good!!
