Is it because of the mohawk that you can tell he is a cockeral? We ordered all girls but one of ours has this same mohawk look going on...

hoping that we got the all girls that we ordered.

I have an extreme dark orp hen too, only in bantam. You think she's black until you put her next to one and then you can see the difference.

Kathy - She is really pretty and she is a dark blue. She has beautiful lacing. Personally, I prefer the dark blue to the light blue. Your blacks will be black with that Emerald green sheen to them. Be sure to post pictures as she grows. I'd love to see what she looks like all grown up.

Julie - Wonderful pictures - as always !!!! Your little splash boy seems to be coming right along.

I love your little bantum. She has a really sweet little face.

Cindy, on the cockerel I am looking at Stance, Feathering and comb. .

Kathy you girl is just a dark blue. The thing about blue is you can have lots of varying shades. I think that is why there were so few for so long because you are trying to breed for the lacing and obviously they don't breed true when you breed blue to blue and get 3 different colors.

In this picture you can see dark blue, Black and Splash. These are chicks I hatched from Joy.
I have another few that have lighter blues

Joy she is a keeper. I have two blues out of the older groups that I am keeping for breeding. That one and the lighter blue. I have another dark blue one but she is a month younger that the one pictured so am waiting to see if she makes the cut.

Well, I sure can see why you are keeping her...she is gorgeous. I want to see more splash pullet pictures. If I don't get any out of this batch of eggs that are getting ready to hatch, I think I'm going to have to break down and get you to ship me a couple.
