oh wow i am sorry for your loss...
I may have spoiled mine a bit to much I kept her out side for a little while then we had a heat spike of 107 and I decided to bring her in for the rest of the time.
I am a worry wart and I was worried not just about the eggs but like you about her too. We picked her up once a day and took her out to potty I had an experience with a br broody she would pew in her nest with the eggs and all... it was horrible.

Young broodies and first timers are always bad about that Germaine. But some of the older gals will starve themselves on the nest too....you have to physically drag their butts off the nest daily to make sure they eat and drink and go poo.

So sad about your cochin girl.

Amazing isn't it? They just sit right there and die doing their job. Poor things.

I force my ducks off the nest at least once per day...whether they like it, bite, don't..they get off and I see them eat and drink.

Yes, I had never seen anything like that before. I was proud of her and upset with me. Definetely a learning experience that I won't forget or make the same mistake twice!

Smart. Luckily my Goose was smart enough to hatch 8 goslings and survive. I did bring her food and water out to her hiding spot but I was worried that the predators would find her. She is a good mama goose.

But the mama is taking care of them right? That is so hot. I had one roo going into heat stroke today and it was only 99 here. Lucky I caught it in time.

Thank goodness you caught that in time...that is how I lost Thor...it was much hotter here but with only fans in the coop, it was too hot for my big boy. I had no idea until it was too late.
