My favorite ~FAT, FLUFFY & Sassy hen~ is the one on the right in this pic, ...I call her Black Magic..She has very heavy English traits, got a couple nice types like her along with mixed types and standard apa types as well, Our 5th generation lav orps should have some excellent types all around this round..

I just don't want her to suffer. But if your pullet survived JUC59 and lived for 4 years I am going to help this little girl to make it too.

Germaine - My girl did just wonderfully for quite a few years after she injured her leg. Here is a picture of her...as you can see, she was fat, happy, and healthy !!

Edited to add that I did keep her away from any roosters. She did not need some randy rooster on her back.

I also have a Blue Orp hen that limps but she survives just fine. She lays well. I just didn't want to put her down at all. With mine I had put a plastic leg band on her and she somehow got it way up high on her leg before we found it and had to cut it off.

I haven't had a Orp like that but years ago I got this chick from a hatchery and she was the mystery chick. She ended up with a crippled leg buy managed to get around okay. I just let her keep growing and when she started laying she layed most brillant turqoise eggs so I still didn't cull her. I finally ended up giving her to some folks in Fl. when I sold some chickens to them. I have never seen eggs as pretty as hers since.

Germaine, I had a pullet that got SQUISHED completely underneath a piece of plywood that was leaning against the house... don't ask me how, I still can figure it out to this day. It wasn't even windy that day so I don't know how the thing fell over. The worst part is that the only reason I found her was because I walked over the plywood and it made a bawk, bawk noise! When I removed it I found her and I thought for sure she was a gonner. First the wood falls on top of her then I go and walk on her! Well she was squished for sure. The side of her body that was against the ground looked flattened, like in a cartoon. She didn't put weight on that side for the longest time, always limping on the leg and holding her wing in an akward position. Her comb was even smushed to one side for awhile. Well for about 2 1/2 weeks I kept her in a "rehab run" next to but separated from the main flock. I fed her treats all the time (I felt terrible!) and she eventually put on more weight than she probably should have and started using her leg normally again.

It took some time but now she's back with the main flock and lays an egg for me everyday. From now on though I don't go aimlessly walking on fallen boards, I always check to see if someone is underneath them first!

Oh my gosh, I know it isn't funny but you walked on her too? The poor hen! I would be feeding her treats too, probably my own dinner LOL. I am so sorry!

That is wonderful news that she recovered and thank you for telling me your story. You are very good at it and I can hear the plywood bawk as I type.

This hen is going to be so spoiled and never want to go back to the flock. She still lays down alot but is standing up on her own more often and is "limping" a little quicker now to get where she wants to be.

Thank you everyone for the help with her. I really appreciate your stories about your injured ones and it gives me high hopes for her.

Ibier2000 where is Lake Wales close to? They will have good size show in Lake City in Jan. There should be a good number of Orps being shown this year. Are you close enough to go. I plan to be there .
