I have Black Orpingtons and I bought a blue cockerel to breed to some of my pullets, I am falling in love with this breed and am hoping to get some more maybe even some Lavenders

I just counted and there were about 35 large fowl in show give or take a couple so that makes it even better and 2 compare my super grand there wa a total of about 70 ish. Woohoo!!

Decent number of LF birds for a county fair BUFFBEAUTY. We ONLY had 5 in our Marion County Fair (The entire county is Indy), and that is pathetic for a city of this size. Next year I will hopefully double or triple that or more.

Here are my newest to see the great outdoors of my Blues. Their all half from Bamma's APA lines. I have DOC the Blue cock back with his sis now for the summers end. I flip flopped him and FERAN. FERAN is with the top Blacks.
So, these are pure Blues from these breedings. BUS is shut down for a while. His women are in molt.

Yes. I was pleased with the LF numbers. RIRs were the 4H poultry chain birds this year, so that's not even counting the 7-8 cages of 5 birds pens.

Your blue boy is pretty! He looks quite proud of himself

BUFFBEAUTY, I now know how important it is to get our birds out to these shows, if it is not too inconvenient. I am lucky to be with in decent driving range to several good size APA shows. But, these fairs seem to not get the numbers to help encourage more to show. Here in INDY there is a really nice young gal, who is also a diehard BYCer, taking over our County fair and is incharge of filling these cages. She is ATTACKCHICKEN here on BYC. And at our county fair you do not have to be a resident of INDY to show. I promised I would do my best to have some birds for next years fair. And am hoping others will do the same.
Many fear disease and even having their birds stolen. And are justified in their beliefes. BUT, for me, I had no issues. My birds went to our State Fair, and spent three days. Came back and went back to breeding their girls. PLUS, you make new friends, who may even turn one onto a very hard to find variety, like the two Whites I picked up. And that wouldn't happen IF I didn't show.

Just like their daddy DOC, these Blue cockerels think alot of themselves. lololol

I was amazed at all the people here, chicken people, sho had not seen BOs or know what they were and were amazed at their size. That's what fairs are about is exhibiting, so people can see lots of different breeds etc. Of course the ribbons and money prize is cool too! They are definitely addictive. Our schedule is: next week district fair, then 2 weeks later is state which will be APA (and ABA for my favs), then November and December are Heart of the Ozarks and N. Louisiana both of which are APA then Shawnee, ok. So we'll be busy but I can't wait!!
