Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Sure i don't know why not. The judge I talked to I believe he told me he did back to back shows. He was so far behind by the second show on getting caught up with his flocks he didn't wash her and won the Show. The stringman I seen at our State Fair hit two or three shows in a row. You should see the size of the checks they get to bring in a couple of hundred birds per show.

Ok cool. I dont have hundreds of birds to show i will probably only take around 6 but I hope I do good still.

Great to hear. I am only taking 4. I don't feel like cleaning 19 birds again twice, once before I haul them and once in the parking lot. My Bamma Blue Splash cr@pped all over herself. I swear she must have had to flip on her back to get the pooh where I had to reclean her. I finally just put her in the cage and told her it is your job now. lolol No one else had a Splash. She won BV by default. Bamma's 8 month ole Black pullet stomped on my little 6 month oles. I expected that. It was nice to see Russ Milkey's old hen win Reserve of Breed.
Glad to hear. I will look forward to seeing your birds.

Aside from my Buffs, I am working on increasing my width and depth in my Black Orpington program with my existing lines by crossing them. That worked well last year for my small Black starter flock. I am doing my best to incorporate Russ Milkey's Black Orpington line into my pure bred Black Orpington line. Thanks to Julie we have her ENGLISH UK line to really mix things up in the world of the Black Orpingtons and increase width & depth. And for me my favorite INDIANA pure bred Black Orpington breeder is also very high on my list of those to breed lines into my main Black Orp flock. I talked to Russ's wife at the show, she said Russ weiighed the grand daddy of this little fella at 14 lbs. This little guys granny, a 4 year ole Black Orpington hen won Reserve Best of Breed at the Lebanon IN Show this weekend. We're very proud of her. And I am sure this one will do it's best to keep the family line going strong.
This little one's daddy is my Flozelle. My number three Black Orp cock. Also my bigger boy.
And now we have the Little Guy

Very appropriate to stand him on my 14 lbs purple Dinosaur bone. Gettin back to his roots type of thing.

Here is some of my 6 month ole BBS's I took to the show. It is looking like the "BURD Fidrych" is the word.
He finished second to Boss. And looks like a totally different Burd. He continues to fill out. He is a wide load.
Boss Hogg might not be at the top for long.

Here is one of my BO Cockerell

He went to his second show this weekend and the judge said he's a nice bird but just needs time to mature. He also said he is really faded (we knew that) so were going to reconstruct the BOs penn with UV Screening!

Congrats Celtic Hill on the nice Buff. Showing has been a learning experience. I found out how important it is to go back to what works. And nothing better then the encouraging words from an APA judge to urge you back to what worked to make your best Orps.

TONKA works well with my flock. I will never show him. He is my top quality Buff cock from Tony Ewert lines on my original two best color Buff hens. My other big Buff male I got from the same breeder doesn't seem to work as well for color.
So I use TONKA!
If it ain't broke don't fix it!

We're slowly culling out the narrow Buffs. And it should be a crime to cull so many males that have zero White shafting and good color. Only cause I have 4 more nice big Buffs to handle the load
Like this young man

Funny story about showing my buff this weekend. So my buff lives with the following: 2 Pullets who are about three weeks older then him and another BO Cockerell that is 3-4 weeks older then him...So when you compare him to the other cockerell and pullets he looks like a pullet...UNTILL you put him next to a Pullet in a show cage, that is the same age and comes from the same blood line...then he looks like a cockerell...Yeah, i went to a show with Him thinking it was a HER...I really don't pay attention to the LF because it's my little brother's thing so i never really looked at him just pulled him out of his pen and washed him... LOL

Annnnny ways this creates a dilemma, my brother has two buff orpington cockerells he needs to find girl friends to. SO does anyone have any they would sell?

I have two Bantam Orps from a very successful breeder. I noticed at a recent show that the Orp. Bantams being shown were quite a bit larger than mine. It may be because mine are just about 5 months old. I know large fowl Orpingtons are slow growing. Are the Bantams the same? When do you think my two will be full grown?

i'm not sure, but i've noticed that within my own flock, there's a lot of variation on development time. my splash pullet looks to be at about the same stage of development as yours, but she's not quite 4 months yet. my black pullet is the same age, but looks to have twice the feathers and a much more adult shape. i'm not sure about the difference in growth between LF and bantams, and i don't know exactly how long it takes either to become fully grown. if you go by weight, bantam orps should be fully grown at 38 oz. for roos and 34 oz. for hens.

here's a pic of my splash pullet:

did you get your two from don chandler, by any chance?

I just got started with a trio Buff Orps from exhibition lines. I love our hatchery girls so this trio may be prospects to show this fall. They are around 6-7 months old.
