Well I am sure we can get your numbers up soon. I still have about 15 Buffs growing out.
Wow thats good, I need to get some more broody birds because I can not hatch anything. I had 48 eggs in the incubator and hatched two but they both died within a day of hatching. These are Hyline 36 birds and the place I picked them up at said that they usually get %90 or better hatches. But of course that is with a commercial incubator.

I had a year of lousy hatches till I started to hatch my own. 25% was what I normally averaged when I started. Or worse. I wouldn't beat yourself up too much. We will have you hatching like a pro by the time summer hits.

OSUman, When I was younger I found a good friend that was 50 years older than me. He was my mentor. Hoyt Seeley got me started in showing. I will never forget him. Locate some breeders close to you and allow them to mentor you. lildinkem would be a good mentor, but not sure how far you are from him. (OH/IN). Join a local poultry club. Ohio has several. Being on BYC and showbirdbid is a good start.
As for bad hatches. Sometimes it takes a bit to get the kinks worked out. I had a lot of bad hatches over the years. Could not hatch a single egg at first. Then after 3 bad settings I figured it out. I was living with my grandparents and working as a home health provider for my grandfather. Mamaw had an older washing machine. The laundry was just outside my room. It shook the entire mobile home when it spun. I moved the incubator to the storm cellar and started getting 90+% hatches. Sure wished I had a cellar now!
Jon Doug is having a seminar the first Sat of Jan up in Hamilton County as I remember. It is for 4-Hers and newbies to Exhibition. He sent me the info. I think it was meant as a hint. I am sure you are welcome to visit. I am going cause I know I need some more educationg on Exhibition.
Have a nice rest of Christmas
