No it's not. Like many of the orpington varieties, they are only available for us to look at and dream. Until someone comes along with enough money to get some shipped over here!

Here are my Blue Orpingtons at 13 weeks.

Meet Linus (a Splash) and Snoopy:

I think I like Fred and Tonks best so far.

Rumor has it that http://greenfirefarms.com has imported some Chocolate Orpingtons, but they are not available yet. They do have several imported varieties that have not been available, if you can afford them. A juvenile pair of Jubilee Orpingtons are currently $999.00 on their website.

Are there seriously people that will pay a price like that?

If people are willing to pay that price they might as well import some themself and they might actually get some good birds...

Speaking as someone who has imported Orps from England, $999 a pair is a bargain !! When GL Orps become available, I'll be happy to pay $999 a pair - that price is far cheaper than importing yourself, not to mention not having to deal with all the headache and aggravation.

Well I guess all of us aren't fortunate enough to have $999 to spend on 2 chickens. Not that you do, but I've never cared about keeping up with the Jones's.

Well, a lot of it just boils down to what you want to spend your $$$ on. I prefer to spend mine on chickens instead of cell phones and outrageous cell phone bills, credit card bills, going out to eat, shopping for trivial nonsense, etc. So the $999 we would spend on a pair of chickens is small change compared to what a lot of folks spend annually on those kinds of things. LOL. (Not saying you do this, just saying a LOT of people do). We just love the English orps, which is all we raise, and we get great pleasure and enjoyment out of watching them run around the yard. Who needs "dinner and a movie" when you have beautiful chickens to watch instead???
