Hi Kelly.........great ur on here ! My eggs are doing very well-Thnx 4 sending xtra ~one had a large lengthwise crack & one a star crack....so I taped the star & I have 7-SEVEN !!! in my Brinsea thanks to you ! I am also anxious, however, I can wait as I am quite busy w/ my ND goats kidding now.......in fact 2 kids are sharing the bathroom w/ the eggs for a time as I am bottle feeding them.

I am excited for you getting new Orps.........
I have 3 Blue Orp hens & one Roo-one hen went broody a while ago but I don't think the eggs are fertile ??? So I've been pondering what to do w/ her,she is a good Brooder.afraid if I give her some fertile eggs she will be broody too long for her health....hoping when weather warms another will go broody. I saw some SERAMAs that are tempting me now,but I am sooooo busy........

Oh DARN IT! I tried to pack those eggs really well! Grrrrrr I also heard that you can use soft wax to seal a crack - but I've never done it. I hope you have a great hatch rate - and if you want more eggs, I'm glad to send them at no cost (just shipping - which isn't too much).

I hear you on being busy!!! Give your goats a scratch for me - I love goaties!

Have a really good day!

ok silly question, regarding sexing of orpington chicks. Is there any way to really tell the roos from the pullets on chicks, just by their wing feathers? I was told females wings will grow out quicker than that of males. Not sure if this holds any truth or not. I dont know how to vent sex (so much trouble!) So I figured I would ask a few of the more experianced guys and gals here in the orpington thread.

Thanks

I asked the same question and in general girls feather out faster than boys but not every chick reads the book lol. a few said that has been their experience so I am watching mine to see if its somewhat true! I have 5 chicks, 3 have wing and tail feathers at 2 weeks, 1 has wing feathers and one is still fuzzy. the fuzzy one has the biggest feet ever lol. so my guess right now is 3 girls 2 boys. time will tell!

yea Im guessing I have a few girls myself, "if" the feathering thing is true, but who knows, maybe I will keep track of the ones I think are females, by the feathering, and mark it in a book, and see how many actually turnout to be true. LOL Only way to tell I guess.

lol that is what I am doing. if nothing else it will help when trying to figure out little ones later on. I just put a pic up on the english orp thread, fuzzbutts mooning the camera

I have only bought Orp Pullets & hope to raise some chicks this year, however, raised a few Cuckoo Marans & the hens were the Dark chicks & the Roos were the lighter colored ones.
