Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I just got my First Blue Orpingtons last November~however, this year they keep getting POOP stuck on their beautiful fuzzy butts~I feed them 16% Layer Pellets & some Scratch Grains~plenty of clean warm water~Grit & Shell~ I have to wash & soak it off & then cut or pull out feathers, which doesn't leave them looking very 'pretty'. Has anyone else had this problem??? It does not seem to affect their egg laying. I tried to get a pic of their butts but they don't trust me after I clean them & won't turn their butts to me.

OK THANKS ! I never have this problem w/ my Marans & Welsummers, so I was really puzzled & thought it was something I was causing ? I do LOVE them.

Orps have those big fluffy skirts that other breeds don't have. The older they get, the more fluff they get. It makes it hard to breed and when it rains.. well.. YUK! So Every spring everyone gets a hair cut and first worming and my eggs turn out pretty fertial and my birds don't look like old mud hens. Im sure you will be happier once your birds have their spring hair cut too.

Amazing how the needs of the breeds are so different~sort of like Goats & Horses & Cows~Believe me goats~ have been the most difficult & I bet sheep are also !

Just working on one trait at a time here in Indiana with my Black Toe nail project bird from my IVAN "BUSTOFF" cock. Yes, he is still going stronger then ever.
Here are the end two of last year's BUS production. BUS has thrown for me, Black Birchen, Blue Birchen, Blue Red and this Black Red pullets. Sooo many interesting looks. With vital traits that I can use.
Like Black toe nails for my Black Orps.
Remember BUS is 1/2 Buff Orp from my top of the line ORIGINAL to me BUFF ORP HENS, and 1/2 Black Meyer hatchery Australorp muttlike bird.
The results are intriguing.

You always have the most interesting combinations!

They mostly come from this one bird.
But, since he makes some of my better quality Blacks and Blues I own, one Blue & one Black both won BV's at Connorsville APA Show, and the Blue had to beat another breeder's hen to do it. There is no more bashing on him now and he finally can be taken more seriously, at least in my eyes. A year ago here it was a different story. Since I do not sell ANY of his offspring and only breed him to make birds that I can compete with, it comes down to an APA judge's decision on how well he produces. And that is the way we all want the APA Poultry Shows to work. May the best bird win. Very few here are a big fan of my BUS. But, I am and that is all that matters. He is my big sweet baby boy!

I like how big his chest is! And he knows he's cool, doesn't he?
Besides, who cares what some people think. You're in it for you. Like I'm in it for me. I'm going to start showing this year. I have a black roo who is AMAZING. In fact, I'm gonna go take some more pics.
