I see your point however, that Hen is born in Feb. 2011. She is more mature than one would think and if you saw her side by side with a rooster there is a definate difference in tail feathering and structure. I look forward to meeting you and your DH tonight. Lets pray the weather is kind to us later. Your little blue hen is scratching away in an open dog crate in my Insurance Office in A/C making a scene.....lol. Thank goodness I have understanding co-workers and a good Boss. I don't know to many office atmospheres that would allow one to bring a chicken in the office

She will be in comfort till 2:30am with Spring water from the fountain, A/C, and a nice mash with BOSS in it.

I will definitely look over your Orp and if I feel it's a Pullet I will let you know. I really do not have a breeding program for that bird but, am willing to give it a good home where a rooster is allowed to Crow for hours on end

He is a teddy bear. I have a few of his offspring. The one trait I need to work on is stiffening up his tail. Many of the Orps you don't see the width too much anymore. ALOT of narrow rear end birds.

I love his color and look at those cute eyes

I think like many others I am really intrigued with the color projects, but having just gotten into chickens I am really lost on the creation of the different colors. Does anyone mind giving a general run down of how some of the colors are made?
I have a good grasp on basic genetics, but haven't really found the info to figure it out on my own...
I guess I will just throw out some questions & I appreciate any and all responses.
Where does the splash come from and why do people sell the eggs as labeled BBS?
How do you get a black, blue, splash and lavender bird- what colors would the parents be to each of those colors?
What happens if you breed a buff to a blue black splash or lavender? Do you get a new color or do the colors mix?
What about the white orps, if crossed with a buff or one of the BBS colors?
What colors breed true, like a buff to a buff always produces a buff, and which don't?
Can you produce sex linked birds using different colors of the same breed or do sex linked birds always have to come from mixing of two seperate breeds?
