Sounds like a great place to check out Harry. Wish I lived closer.
This friend I have knows an old school White orp breeder from up North from here.
So thanks to this Ole School guy I have Hugo!

You can see he is a young fella and should fill out nicely. LOVE the type and am VERY HAPPY to have another White Orp cockerel to use from a totally different line.
Thank you OLE TIMING DUDE!!

well , we cant wait to hear how you did..so much fun..I had no idea what the poultry press table at these APA sanctioned shows was for..All this time I thought they were just taking subscriptions. you can take out a little add to thank the show with pic of your bird and what you won..had no idea or I would have done that there..I tried to do it after the show was over from home so we'll see how it comes out..there was a blond lady with a very expensive camera taking several pics of my bird and trying to make him pose ..you know how blk orps buts are up in the back, i think she was trying to level him out a little or just make him lift his head a little..not sure what that was all about..I assumed she was doing it for poultry press..maybe she was.she had the door open and reaching right in there trying to re-arrange him..will be interesting to see.there was an award donated by a couple who were life long orpington fans and he won it so maybe they were taking the picture..just not sure.
my favorite thing at this show is they have chicken bingo , too funny.

good luck and have a great time..love your buff hen in the avatar..she looks like a winner to me

I appreciate the kinds thoughts.
Oh yeah Poultry Press guy made the offer to me last year. IF I had something to sell it would have been worth it. As it turned out my Buff girl as seen in my avatar was in Exhibition Poultry Magazine in last year's Nov issue. That is good enough for me.
Yes the best way to get them to pose is to let them do it on their own. Judges use a wand to tap on their butts to get them to lift their tails. I mimic the sound of a cock warning call. That always perks them up for a nice pic.

Just moved the new White cockerel "HUGO" into a pen with 2 nice young White girls. Well one of the girls is a Buff Sport. Which means she is a PUREBRED Orpington from Buff parents that carry the White gene. Her father won the junior show at our Indiana State Fair Poultry Show in 2010. So, she has the genetics to make some darn nice babies. The White cockerel is just what the doctor ordered. He is a Snowball White. No Buff leakage, or Blue on his legs. A perfect colored White and true PUREBRED Orp all the way. Next season I should be getting some nice chicks from this trio. The other pullet is a Single comb Wyandotte from possibly the best White Wyandotte breeder in our country. Who recently WON the Glennville Ohio Show with he spectacular White Wyandotte. Many may not know a White Wyandotte is a true Silver and NOT a White gene bird. So, these two will make again Snowball White chicks. With a low profile comb. No LEGHORN BLOOD in them!

..

can you beleive all of the years I didnt know what that poultry press table was for..they should put a sign out...seriously thought they were taking subscription orders. fantastic about that hen being ffeatured in the press. shes super nice..

I took my laptop so I could write from there..somone had wireless set right up at the show so that was nice, at some shows you have to run down the street to mcdonalds or arbys or nearest cafe..so that was great..shame I left the camera and rest of equipment at home, would have posted better pics..

my sister and I went to england 4 yrs ago , to stay with relatives, the girls took my sister to the jane austin festival, liam and ryan took me to go see a couple big poultry shows while we were there..super nice australorps and buff and colored and blk orps, I think they have a bigger color spectrum than we do...we got to talk to several breeders who were more than happy to advise so that was neat..they even discussed some of the problems they ran into, one of them being that the chests were coming out too flat on some of the orps and the judges were heavily penalising that, they wanted the profile to be very very round ..not square or too V shaped..got a lot out of it.. we took a ton of pics but the computer we had them in crashed last year . might be a way I could recover those.. next time I get down to the computer guy I will ask if he can draw those out for me.

The Buff pullet was in Exhibition Poultry Magazine. Not Poultry Press. They wanted like $50 or more to put her in Poultry Press. And unless you are selling, you really do not need to do that unless you have more money to throw around. I rather buy a bird or two for $50. lololol
There are alot of neat varieties over there. I am jealous!
