Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

ALL Orpingtons are "ENGLISH" by breed classification. At a show ALL large fowl orpingtons are entered in the SAME category/class, ENGLISH. It is up to the judge to decide which bird meets the American SOP and which bird does not.

The show I attended last week had very few orpingtons, and they were all classified as "English", because that is the catagory. The only black roo won, the only blue hen won- even though she had no lacing.
I think the black roo may have been an import, or at least a cross. He had no competition in that variety, so I couldn't tell who would have won if he was up against a more american type.

The only lavender birds there were d'anvers. I was surprised because GA is chock full of lav birds now.

Thanks - that's kind of the way I understood it (about showing them) though it can be confusing. They are entered as English Orpingtons but will be judged on the American SOP, since it's an APA show, which differs from the English SOP.

That's why I said "what's in a name? American vs English

No, they are not entered as English Orpingtons.
English is the "class," not a breed.

It was under the profile settings. I'll go look and see if I can find where it was.

I can't seem to find it. It might have also been when I made the listings - it might have asked if I wanted it to show in my signature line but I thought I found it somewhere udner profile settings but can't seem to find it now. I saw it on someone else's signature nd just kept clicking till I stumbled upon it and now I don't know where it was. Anyone else know???

It is confusing, but all Orpingtons in the USA are entered into the "English" class, yet are judged according to the American SOP standards. The ones labeled "English" orpingtons should be bred according to the U.K. standard which is different. The most glaring differences are the short back and amount of "fluff" allowed. American SOP Orpingtons are longer in the back and the feathers are only allowed down to a certain amount, shorter than the English Standard. There are other differences but I'm being brief.

So "What's in a name?" Well, nothing if you mislabel your product.

I can't figure it out by going through my profile either. Maybe I need to go to the actual listings...Thanks for your help, though!
