Here is a photo we received this morning. Its from a buyer of our hatching eggs. Makes a fellow proud when folks raise our chicks right! This is a 100% pure Cecil Moore line Black Orpington.

How old is this baby? So sweet. I love the green sheen in the black.

Laverne Berg used Bob Coulter Buff Sports and Single Comb White Wyandottes. Paul judged them at the APA show in Iowa this past year and said their some of the best White Orps he has judged in a long time. Plus these White Wyandottes have Doug's White Rock in them. These birds in the pics daddy was Grand Champ at Greenville Ohio last year.
This is one of the offspring from my using the White Orp cock I got. That cock has some Ammarell blood and some Moore blood. But is Harry's line. I have been very pleased with what they are producing. And so is Walt.

I hatched some of those whites from Hinks for my freind Jen , whos son really wants to show, I had gotten kind of attached to one of them befor they went over to Jens, so it was hard to hand them over ..we left them here for inspection.. I hadnt seen them in quite a while..That little boy is so proud of his choice of orpingtons that he just beams..he has thier venue spotless and they glow white like a beacon..Im so happy for him..I was on home from work stopped up to see them..they are not only very big already but nice wide feather , just a beautiful group..his brother shows cornish..

Yes this combo is working well for me. Coming season I will try putting these younger 2 single comb White Wyandottes with the Buff Sport cock I have. He is sorta picky and I will need to put them in with him in the fall to hope he will do his job by next spring. IF he does they too should be making some nice birds like this girl and her siblings.

These Black Orpington hatching eggs were shipped to and arrived in Indiana April 19, 2012. Add 3 weeks and hatch date would be May 10. The buyer says he took the photo at 14 weeks of age.

You should see the green sheen on the parents!

Very nice. Samson appears regal and he knows it too.

Sadly, we lost Samson this past winter. He was hatched by Cecil Moore, then sold to Superior Farms in 2006. Thankfully we have lots of his offspring. This summer we lost a hatch mate hen of Samson's. That was the last of the Cecil Moore hatched birds we had. But obviously, Samson's genetics have continued in his grandchicks.

Interesting thoughts on tail angle from a well known Orp breeder and also an APA judge.

It is common in breeding certain poultry breeds to keep a male or female with a higher than prescribed tail angle. That’s how you correct a fault in others. For example, Orpington, Australorps and other breeds can tend to getting too flat backed after a few years. You correct that by breeding with a high tailed male; or female.

It’s more common in Orpington females to have too low of a tail angle rather than too high; you need different characteristics (such as breeding with higher tailed bird) to improve a line.
