Mr Jim, those eggs came from Uof A I can tell! Congrats. Most of mine were infertile. I MIGHT get four Favs. Chickens are just not good models for photography without a quick shutter.

See on his comb how in the middle there are two sprigs together and then there is a horn to the side on the back you can see in the first shot as more of a shadow. The black in the middle is dirt.

Clearly there was something on the lens. Apologies. I don't know if i got enough natural poses here but I was trying. None of these express how wide he is looking down on him. He just wouldn't let me get that picture. He is tightly feathered with a green sheen. No purple that I've noticed. He is only about five months with his sickles just coming in. Can you see the 'whitish' feather in the tail too? Its down in there and short. I don't know if that is a juvenile feather or what.

To clarify, I do see a distinct difference between EU Orps and USA. IMO the English ones that are winning look like balls of feather with heads and feet glued on. I would hate to pluck all that fluff. Where's their neck??

Will try not to offend you. He looks more Australorp in type than Orpington. With the side sprig I would cull it ASAP. Around her we would name him Mr. Dumplins. Get with me this fall and I will get you some real Black Orpington eggs. Maybe we can do an egg swap for something one of our local youth can use.

Here is the basic type of an Orpington up against yours in a side by side view:

Some of these eggs are ours and some eggs are from the University of Arkansas-Fayettville research farm. They gave me 457 eggs and I shared most of them with local youth and some BYC 4H members. The eggs in front and just behind the chick are some of our own Arkansas Blues. There parents were at the UA this spring. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/624359/blue-egg-layers-from-unversity-of-arkansas

Renie - This is the 3rd time we have had to stack eggs. i am looking for a small sodapop box to build a homemade incubator inside. I have the parts but not the box. Someone gave me a huge sodapop box, but its too large for us. Nowhere to put it inside. I need one about 3' tall with about 4 shelves inside it.

Jim.. that big soda box would make one terrific bator... could watch everything. Keep checking at your local dump... that is a pretty good place to find what you are looking for.. otherwise check with your local repair people. :)
