Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Don.... I tried to find me some of them things..... I just couldn't find any for sale here in NH... I resorted to buying two of those really big green suet feeders from Walmarts... I do believe they will do the trick just fine. ")

i am trying so hard to picture what you guys are talking about..i use paper cartons and big hunks and wads of folded up papertowel....i never have more that one or 2 kinds going on..anywhere from 6 to 15 at lockdown..im thinking about some kind of battery backup in case the power goes out in storms ect..trying to figure all of that out right now..

OK Thanks..Now I understand..I think I saw rockinpaints use a system like that..they were all seperated into cubicals legbars from whites, ect...

A few recnt pics from around the farm yard ..it was a nice day so took a few pics. I was taking cages out of this pen, I accidently tore the plastic liner with a cage..these guys saw a red tail out in the big pasture, ran into the barn with me while I was trying to clean..they wouldnt go too far for about an hour..they have A frames out there to run into..but they felt safer under my feet..

it had hailed for a minute , the birds ran into thier Aframe out in the feild...but when the hawk flew over they had about enough ...they came running into the barn..we have had a lot of hail latley..the other day on my way home from work, I thought my windsheild was going to crack..i pulled under highway but looked up, no highway..forgot they were doing construction there..lot of good that did..lucky as bad as it sounded hitting the car..no damage, our house roof took a little damage.. , elmira reported frost this morning..this guy is still worried about where that hawk is..

they finnally decided the coast was clear, and headed out back inot the big pasture after windfall fruit..the little black one is an extra australorp that a freind is going to pick up this week..

Mr Jim, those eggs came from Uof A I can tell! Congrats. Most of mine were infertile. I MIGHT get four Favs. Chickens are just not good models for photography without a quick shutter.

See on his comb how in the middle there are two sprigs together and then there is a horn to the side on the back you can see in the first shot as more of a shadow. The black in the middle is dirt.

Clearly there was something on the lens. Apologies. I don't know if i got enough natural poses here but I was trying. None of these express how wide he is looking down on him. He just wouldn't let me get that picture. He is tightly feathered with a green sheen. No purple that I've noticed. He is only about five months with his sickles just coming in. Can you see the 'whitish' feather in the tail too? Its down in there and short. I don't know if that is a juvenile feather or what.

To clarify, I do see a distinct difference between EU Orps and USA. IMO the English ones that are winning look like balls of feather with heads and feet glued on. I would hate to pluck all that fluff. Where's their neck??
His type isn't all that good, he has the wrong color eyes and legs. Eyes should be black or dark dark brown and legs should be black with white pads.

Who's rthe pretty boy?
thats softie jr..he survived a weasle attack..it tore out a pile of tail feathers and some wing feathers, but they are growing back nicley..we havnt seen or heard a weasle in quite a while now..thank god..those weasles did a lot of damage in one night..they know that they cannot get in now so must have moved on..i talked to my neighbor at the bottom of driveway, the weasles killed her whole flock..horrible little things..in the photo of him walking away, you can see right side where the feathers are coming back in..if these birds hear any animal that makes a squeeking noise, they go absolutly crazy..this one broke a toenail off during the night i figure trying to get away from it..

Aveca... we are talking about using little wire coated cages inside of the hatch tray to keep the hatching chicks separated for identification purposes.

OK Thanks..Now I understand..I think I saw rockinpaints use a system like that..they were all seperated into cubicals legbars from whites, ect...

When we are hatching several similar varieties at the same time (Blue, Black and Split Orpingtons) we use these dishwasher baskets as hatching baskets. With a small hatch like these White Orpingtons we do not a hatching basket. Just a swift removal to our brooder totes.

One of our brooder totes.

I know at one large hatchery I went to that was doing some special hatching they used Onion sacks to put eggs in so that the chicks wouldnt mingle.
