Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Well, I also put these photos up in another thread. So far folks seem to think that their feathers are just old and sun bleached. We shall see

if they are new to your farm, you might want to hit them with a good lice powder, then a worming, will help when they molt, they can produce better feathers after a molt when they can absorb nutients better, then you can judge if it is sunbleaching or leakage..it takes a while to see the results..but worth it.

Leakage happens when there arent enough black melanizers to cover up the gold or the silver underneath. It is most often seen in the hackle and saddle feathers first.
Can someone explain what "leakage" is please? I'm not familiar with the term. Thanks.

Yea, some people people keep black cockerels, with a little red leakage for breeders so that they can get a better green sheen on their birds. But it takes a lot of experience and knowledge to do it properly.
So leakage is a genetic thing?

I could really use some constructive critisism on my orps... there are no orp breeders locally for me to glean any tidbits from, but i have been lurking about here for quite some time. I'd specifically like to get some feed back on 2 of my hens, well actually a hen and a pullet.

This blue hen is from last june/july? about there so that makes her about 16 months old.

Please forgive her feather, shes in a bit of a molt(about 3/4 the way done). I know she could use actual lacing being a blue and all, but i seam to be having issues with that. Going off of my copy of the SOP she looks to be the best hen i have, aside from adding size, is there some areas shes strong or weak in?

how about this young black pullet?

Shes only 5/6months old, but to my untrained eye she holds the best promise of the seasons pullets. she has a good flow to her body, good width and depth, and a full breast. She has a nice round head though she refused to look at the camera... I realize she has quite some growing to do but again, any strength or weaknesses that can be pointed out?

Thanks for taking some time to help me out!
