Those RIRs don't look like real RIRs. They are Production Reds and I find sex link birds the most aggressive breeds I've owned. Not all of them are created equal.

Depends on how bad you want to keep them. If the disposition is not what you want, get rid of them.

Well, if they aren't RIRs, then Ideal sent me the wrong order. :gig And if they are Production Reds, then that is so much better. :ya

I only want them for laying eggs. I won't let these girls brood anything, not even a rock. They have terrible dispositions. I don't want those genes anywhere in my stock.

I really need to get a pic of what a RIR is "supposed" to look like - but then again, these are hatchery stock.

I had been lurking on that thread for a few weeks now.

Thanks for the information. :thumbsup

If the temperaments are unpleasant, thank your lucky stars that someone wants to buy them.

Start over, and I suggest that you buy from a breeder who thinks temperament is important. You won't believe the difference when you get nice natured birds. They are so much easier to work with and so much more pleasant to be around.

You're right. Thank you for your input. Much appreciated.

I will definitely seek out pleasant temperaments this go round. This was definitely an eye opener. ;)

Now I have the tasks of finding breeders. I know that there aren't any in my area but I will take my time to find the right breeder and the right birds for next year's stock.

I have a ton of "Ameraucanas" *wink* from Ideal, ie Easter Eggers, so if you want photos of those, I can post some. They are nice looking hens I must say, but I would not purposefully order any through Ideal again. Out of 25 pullets ordered, I would say around 1/3 or more had leg/foot issues. Most I was able to correct, but there were a few chicks that had to be euthanized. I also had my first ever case of crossbeak. We tried to save her, but in the end had to euth her as well.

I do have 5 bantams from Ideal at the moment, but I checked them over before I took them since they were ordered for someone who didn't pick them up by my feedstore.

Just remember that you asked for it...lol.

As juveniles

Roo hatched from egg of Light Brown Leghorn crossed with an EE roo that came in my pullet order.

I'm Johnnie (female Johnnie), so I own the pictures. No worries about copyright infringement by posting them..lol.

Wow, what a cock! Nice pullets, too, but cocks are usually more striking than hens, IMO.

Thank you! I have tons of other photos, but they aren't on my work computer or else you guys would be in real trouble.

Thanks for comments on my Roo, he is a sweet one. My hay guy asked if he could have him since I have a few roos and I told him that he could, but he hasn't taken him home yet. Everytime I see him though he says, "I'm coming to get my roo, don't give him away."...lol
