I just got a 2 yr old Tom yesterday. Do u have to lock them up like u do chickens so they know where they don't run off? If so, about how long? I have a hen that is dying for him to come out. She just lays by his cage and watches him. Its so cute! Lol

Our single little rescue 'Turkey-Lurkey'... doesn't care for people much - I'm sure she came from a home where there... raise them for meat, not sure, but she does not care for any human interactions. So when I found her wandering my street just a week before Thanksgiving.. We decided not to put up any poster that we found her. Just chased her down (that was not easy) and put her in with my chickens. She's a regular little flock member now! Not at the top, that's the Barred Rock's spot (Betty Boop), but she does assert herself sometimes with the others.

Im pretty sure that's a Guinea you have there not a turkey.

Oh yeah?!?! I never even considered it after I saw the long naked neck.. So we could have a Guinea named Turkey? Oh brother... lol!

LOL yes. You have yourself a guinea not a turkey. Its a funny story though. Poor Turkey - Lurkey is gonna be a very confused guinea lol.

Funny! They do sometimes look similar to turkeys.

After reading about Guineas now... it explains a lot! ha! We kept thinking.. "shouldn't it be getting bigger??" and the alarm sounds it makes is so obvious an alert for the rat that goes in the coop and steals the food... (sigh) makes so much sense... Thanks everyone! I don't know if we'll re name her.. she's been Turkey Lurkey for like.. 3 months! maybe just cut back to Lurkey - kind of explains her walk too
