I haven't really seen anything "too cool" at my house. We get plenty of pretty finches, cardinals, blue jays, hummingbirds, etc. We also had some kind of crane and wood ducks in our pond, but unfortunately I was never able to get pictures of any of those.
We did have a family of Canadian Geese that nested on our pond a few summers ago. We named them Gus and Petunia. Of course, like any geese, they were territorial and aggressive, but for some reason they really liked me. Gus would let me sit near Petunia while she was nesting, he'd come over to me and eat bread that I brought them, he would even join me on walks around my yard, but anyone or anything else - he would go after. Everyone joked around and said he was my personal guard/attack goose, lol.
They ended up laying 7 eggs - 3 eggs slipped into the pond during a bad storm and 'froze.' The remaining 4 hatched; however, 3 babies were picked off by what we think were raccoons. One baby did survive and it was the cutest thing ever. Once it hatched I cut off my connection to them, but I did snap a few pictures...unfortunately it was with a film camera and I never got around to scanning those shots in...
Gus and Petunia ended up paying us a visit this past summer:
I called out to them and sure enough Gus came waddling over. I left some bread out for them, but my food-obessed chickens actually shooed them away and ate what was left... lol
