Thanks. I have a North American bird book but is it so difficult to tell them apart! By the time I take into account the male colours and the female colours, then add the juvenile feathers, the shape of the tail etc, the bird has long gone!

The best bird book I have found is by peterson's (spl). They have an eastcoast and west coast version. It show's all of the birds. Even shore birds and ducks.
