Post Predator Attack - Irritated Eye, not eating or drinking

I’m not sure. I think it’s legal where I am to shoot at it with a permit, or at leaf that’s what my uncle has told me considering he’s the one who said he would take care of it 😭😭
I’m not the most familiar with that, so don’t take my word for it. I wasn’t there when it happened either but I’m really really lucky to have people who watch and look out for them well to have caught it early enough to scare it off and not have let it taken anyone on its way out. My babies will NOT be an easy food source if I have anything to say about it! (Going to make even my own life difficult around the run for the sake of their safety) I just wish my birds were closer to me.

Fortunately we haven’t seen it since (THANK GOD, let’s keep it that way) and since then I’ve been focusing all my energy into healing everyone up and like maximum security-ing my run. We’ve since put an electric fence around the outside to discourage anything from going near the coop as well has adding multiple locks to every door to make it a five step process to get in. When I get the chance I’m going to have to get the materials I need to block a small hole too but we haven’t gotten there yet.
I mean, do your due diligence, But usually if you are defending your property, including pets and livestock, there is an exception. The guidelines and ins and outs of this are going to change and vary from state to state and even county to county in some cases, so do a smidge of research or contact your local authorities for clarification. beyond that I would suggest picking up the tools and skill to dispatch the animal yourself, as you may have to take it while its in the act. (Here being on my property is reason enough so long as they are not protected) I do not relish the idea of taking life, even killing insects inside my home, I can feel the stain it leaves on my soul. I also say this having gone to war (I wasn't directly in combat as I was a rear echelon MOS) But I've saved some of my baby chicks from rats, I've deterred arial predators (and my dogs) with loud noises (Where I am at, putting a bullet in the ground does not count as a negligent discharge as I have the property requirements to shoot recreationally in my backyard so long as I am shooting in a safe direction.) All I'm trying to say, though, is having the proper tools, education , and developed skills may help you defend your flock in the even the wretched thing returns. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me in the DMS.

Oh I agree with you full heartedly

I’ve done my reasearch, but unfortunately my birds live up the road from me, not WITH me directly which is where that initial issue arose and where I’m very grateful to have people over there who immediately do have those tools and skills
We’ve handled raccoons and opossums in the past so we definitely have that down 😭

And thank you for the advice!!

Apparently I really cannot catch a break…

Two days ago, a bobcat got into my chicken coop. I lost two of my birds, and yesterday I noticed my tiny little bantam rooster was acting strangely.

One of his eyes was irritated, to which I’ve been treating - and he is keeping his head tucked close to his chest. Additionally, he won’t eat or drink and seems to freak out after a few dropped sips of water. (He very scarily flipped over this morning)

I’ve looked over him multiple times for any external injuries or injuries to the head / neck area but I cannot see any. He can walk but it’s very wobbly and refuses to extend his neck when doing so. I’ll be separating him later once I’m back home as well as providing photos if able, but what else can I do?

Could he have a head injury or be in some sort of delayed shock??
Possibly last or second to last Declan update:

He was fully eating on his own today! (Albeit only from the ground he refuses to eat if it’s in a bowl haha) and he’s done lots and lots of walking and being much more chicken-like today.
Didn’t get to see him drinking as I had to leave mid day but tonight he’s going to bed on a self-filled tummy! Hopefully he’ll be able to join everyone fully again soon - my little champion :]

Wait... did you name him after Declan Harp?
