From what I have read about egg production, I think I should be getting eggs anytime now. I want to make sure I'm doing everything right. Do the nesting boxes have to be enclosed? Mine are in what I call the nesting box "condo" inside of my combo coop/run. Do they need more privacy than that? I could modify it if necessary.

Stray dogs, feral cats, coyotes all hunt during the day and skunks are crepuscular which means they come around during twilight hours. I also know that some owls will hunt during the twilight hours as well as the aerial predators you mentioned.
Great job! Your flock will be safer for it and once you figure out how you want to cover the dig barrier yiu won't worry about mower damage.Since I live in rural Colorado I spent some time today making the ladies a bit more secure from predators. I stapled 1/2'' hardware cloth to the frame of the coop. When I say staple, I don't mean with a staple gun, using 3/4" poultry fencing staples instead. In addition to the block to hold the wire down I used garden wire hoops placed every foot or so. I will be putting the hardware cloth on the run tomorrow just need to get more self-tapping screws and washers.

I would just get some dirt and cover it up, then throw a little grass seed on it. Let that grow and the roots of the grass will intertwine with the hardware cloth. Nothing will want to dig thru that, and then you wouldn't have to worry about running over it with a mower.Great job!
