post your chicken coop pictures here!

I think your coop is so cool!!!!! I love it!
From what I have read about egg production, I think I should be getting eggs anytime now. I want to make sure I'm doing everything right. Do the nesting boxes have to be enclosed? Mine are in what I call the nesting box "condo" inside of my combo coop/run. Do they need more privacy than that? I could modify it if necessary.

Stray dogs, feral cats, coyotes all hunt during the day and skunks are crepuscular which means they come around during twilight hours. I also know that some owls will hunt during the twilight hours as well as the aerial predators you mentioned.

Since I live in rural Colorado I spent some time today making the ladies a bit more secure from predators. I stapled 1/2'' hardware cloth to the frame of the coop. When I say staple, I don't mean with a staple gun, using 3/4" poultry fencing staples instead. In addition to the block to hold the wire down I used garden wire hoops placed every foot or so. I will be putting the hardware cloth on the run tomorrow just need to get more self-tapping screws and washers.

If any predator gets through this, it's time for the heavy artillery.

Great job! Your flock will be safer for it and once you figure out how you want to cover the dig barrier yiu won't worry about mower damage.

I would just get some dirt and cover it up, then throw a little grass seed on it. Let that grow and the roots of the grass will intertwine with the hardware cloth. Nothing will want to dig thru that, and then you wouldn't have to worry about running over it with a mower.

Or one can add soil over the dig barrier then plant herbs or veggies for their flock to use. I have large (30 lbs&up)rocks on it as well in places. I had a tomato plant out by my run fence that grew 8 ft tall due to high fertilizer content! I think the peas burned off though.Try again in the spring!

Pictures of my new 2nd coop build.

Custom built German style pine cabin with automated pop door open/close system, temperature controlled water de-ice and radiant heat system, 3 nest accessible eggbox, weatherproof roofing with gutter and rain water collection system, 4 way cross ventilation, hinged and latched plexiglass and insulated windows, interior chicken proof lighting with timer, seasonal curtains and appropriate artwork. $
Happy chickens, priceless!
