post your chicken coop pictures here!

We are so excited! A friend of ours was looking for a project and built us this amazing coop, we just installed it all today in the yard!

The coop was built in a modular fashion, meaning everything can come apart into smaller pieces with a wrench in case we need to move. The dimensions are 3' wide x 8' long x 6' tall for the run, and the roof of the coop is about 6.5' high.

The door over the stairs can be accessed externally via a wire, and the screen mesh window is interchangeable with a solid glass window for the winter. On the back of the coop is a hinged door for easy egg collection, and below the coop is a hinged door (seen open in the picture) for easy access to below the coop where there will be water and food for during the day. On the front of the run is a full sized door, allowing us access into the coop!

Our girls don't arrive from the feed store until later this month, which gives us time to get our feeders/waterers, food and other supplies!

So excited to finally get this ball rolling!!!!!

:)

Do you get a lot of snow? to think about how to cover the top and sides during storms? Beautiful coop for Southern Calif but a bit open for inclement weather. I'm sure you've thought of that already. Very nice coop. What breeds are you getting?

They help me spread the manure along with the crows :p
The white spots on the sides of the coop are Velcro to attach clear plastic so the heavy. Rains can't get in. Having the A frame part is. Bit of a pain with that.
In the winTer when it snowed and was really cold I put a tarp over the whole coop.

I think I kept Harbor Freight Tools in business during the winter just getting tarps from them LOL ! The sun or heavy winds are harder on our tarps than rainy days - we don't get snow at all - maybe once every ten years a light frosting of snow that melts really fast as soon as it hits the ground and that's it. Our chickens like the rain. One Silkie heads straight for the mud puddles with the LF. Guess all the drowning earthworns surface and the chickens eat them.

More progress on my coop

I got the roost and shelf installed.

This pen will be what I use around the yard when they need some fresh grass.

I made and installed the screen door. I did it all by myself. I rock! Still have to add the hard wire cloth but it's coming along.

looks good sled wish i had went that route myself

That is beautiful wood. I enlarged it on my screen and it looks very nice in large view. The coop is plenty roomy for 4 layers which they only use for laying or roosting but they'll go stir-crazy all day in the small run area. How safe is your property to allow some free ranging?
May I suggest putting it on blocks to preserve the beautiful finish and keep the rain from absorbing up into that gorgeous wood? We have a little 4x6 coop and boy were we glad we raised it up a couple inches on 2x4 planks on top of paver stones because when the downpour hit us a couple years ago the girls didn't have a slushy mushy dirt floor and the wood base of the coop wasn't sitting in rainwater. BTW if it isn't a downpour rain, chickens love foraging in the muddy earth for worms and grubs. When it rains our girls come back in the coop or go under the lawn canopy to take dry dirt baths.
Another thing I like about your coop is that you knew it needed the roof to overhang the outside nestbox to keep it dry from rain/snow leakage - good thinking! I can't tell from the one side photo where the air hole/vent is. So very cute!
He has plenty of room to add a second run (if necessary) on the back side of the coop where the Garlic sits now. Once the Garlic is harvested it will also aid as an free range area for the gals to dig around! I don't like to use paver stones as it prevents the gals from enjoying dirt baths and digging for goodies. It also gives critters like mice moles and rats a place to dig and hide under. Id like to see him add some cheap basic fencing around his veggie garden so his birds can free range all summer long..Like everything else it costs a small fortune.
