post your chicken coop pictures here!

closed circuit television.

Security cameras. I bought a DVR (digital video recorder) from tiger direct I think. It came with 8 cameras that have infrared capability. (ability to see in the dark). You can view you cameras live and review video if you wish. It varies on cost. My DVR can hold 16 cameras and has 1 TB of memory. I think I spent around 300 for the set. I bought additional cameras to use as well that were upgrades from what the kit came with. There are many cameras you can get. You can get a fixed shot which is just a stationary camera or you can get a PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) which allows you to control it remotely and move it around and zoom in and out. My DVR gives me the ability to view cameras when I switch my TV to VGA mode or I can access them via an app on my phone if I'm away from the house.

My son-in-law has the night vision camera to catch what type of wild critters come to the iron bars back fence that butts up against a wild preserve - he's caught Deer, Coyotes, Bobcats, Skunks, Raccoons, Oppossums, etc on film. The area is so infested with predators that the neighborhood has to bring in their pets at night. Camera is really worth the cost.

The battery is only running 3 small lights . It will keep them on for over a week or so with no sun . When the sun comes out it only takes 1 good day of sunshine to change it back up again. But even a little sun will do some charging.

OK, just wondered. Because during the winter we can go a couple weeks with cloudy days and absolutely no sun. I thought maybe there was a way to plug into an outlet for months when there's no sun.

Yes. You can get game cameras that you mount on a tree. These are good because they run on batteries so you don't have to run any wires. Unfortunately you will have to go get the camera to review what video/pictures it took. You can get wireless ones but they have a limited range. All my cameras are wired in. When I had my barn built, I had them run two PVC pipes underground going from the barn (big shed) to my house so I could run power to the barn from the house and CCTV lines etc. I like the wired in or wireless cameras hooked to a DVR so I can review video instantly if I want. Best case scenario is that you never have to review video because nothing bad has happened!

At least in Finland they sell game cameras with SIM card capabilities, so you can access them remotely. They do however cost a bit, close to 300 euros. Don't know if you have them on the other side of the pond.

All yours are making mine look small lol but I only have a small garden

Very nice use of space! I'm sure your hens are quite content

It doesn't have to be "large," it just has to be "right" for you and your birds, and function properly.

I might be a little obsessed lol but does anyone else have CCTV in the coop?

Say WHAT?!

Hey there Eric,

and welcome to the thread! That is a sweet looking coop! Who can't love a log "home?" I don't think I'd be too comfortable going in the run though... looks a little low in the ceiling for me

How do you access for eggs and such? Is there a door in the side/back of the coop perhaps? I wonder how the interior is laid out for nesting and roosting? How do you keep the chickens away from the wood stove inside

JK... I'd be a little concerned about that open area in the fence right below the roof there... Predators can be pretty crafty, and some climb... Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the warm welcome. The run isn't too bad. It's 5ft. We just have to bend for short periods of time to feed and clean. I made a log bench that we sit on if we're hanging out with the ladies. The eggs are accessible from the outside. There are two next boxes in the back with an access door. I haven't had any bump the wood stove yet, but our 11 herbs and spices are ready just in case. LOL. Finger lick'n good. There are no open areas. It's not noticeable in the picture, but we have wire up. It's a bit rusted so it blends with the wood background. It's mostly to keep them in. We're not too worried about critters since we lock them in the coop at night.
