Thank you!! There is a very small gap above the nestboxes but its very warm here right now so I'm not worried about a little extra ventilation. Once winter comes we will definitely need to seal it up. We aren't sure how to do the drainage on the herb garden yet, still figuring that out. We don't have anything to keep predators out around the run at the moment. Wouldn't be a bad idea but we do live in town and have a 6ft privacy fence with a locked gate around our property so no stray dogs can get in. Our pitbull and coonhound keep out any other critters

Just read a couple days ago where chickens were killed by the family dog and cat after being accustomed to the chickens for a few years already. Still a good idea to be security conscious about chickens around family canines and felines. An animal is an animal is an animal and sometimes can't help themselves and go berserk for no reason - a little like humans sometimes LOL

The herb garden is such a lovely idea. I love my garden too. Someone on this thread had their flower bed over their coop run and had a large heavy duty one-piece plastic tub liner inside the bed area with an outlet drain and sealed up well around all the connections. They really thought about it thoroughly as they didn't want any of the finish on their wood coop to warp. I would think that would be a great idea especially in a rain downpour and hope the bin drains faster than the rain pours in LOL.

I like the coop that's raised higher off the ground. Very nice.

We get some doozy rain sometimes and have lifted our coop on paver stones with a walkway of paver stones all around. Next coop we'll get will be higher off the ground.

Finally, wrapping things up the "Chix Shall Lay". Took a couple weeks of work but happy with the final results. Just need the girls to grow up and start producing.

What did you use for the finish of the wood? I am really leaning towards keeping the wood look on mine once it is done?

We bought "natural" colored wood sealer at Home Depot and sealed up everything. If you seal where the chickens will be make sure you get a sealer safe for animals incase they peck at it. I love the look of natural wood
