post your chicken coop pictures here!

I'm thinking clear 3-5 for a farm, house and barn then use the rest as hunting/camping land lol

I like this idea, except for me I can't clear cut, I would have to leave a lot of trees. (I was a tree in a past life, LOL) I cannot cut them down just because I want space, but that's just me.

I always said when I won the lottery...which I do Not play...um, anyway- I would buy up the available farm land and dole it out to those who would use it responsibly. I know many who are ready made farmers but just don't have the means to get their own land. It would be a gift and get it out of corporate farms hands and back into the hands of the people, where it belongs.

I would love to have more land, we have 3 acre,s and one acre is fenced in for our chickens, we can not free range here,
we are just about done our coop run and 2nd coop

there will be a door on each coop, they will beable to go into the other coop just by walking through the run, we will not worry about them this winter, both back and front have door so I can clean in there, have a window from new coop that will open part way into run, plus all the way for air to both, smaller is a window but they do not open, dh is out there now putting roof on.
I think we are done, have 48 chickens and 3 of them are roos, which one told us this morning it was, first time it crowed.

Well, yesterday I thought I had the last post in the ground!!! Hahaha... Grabbed by door that I'm so proud of and realized it needed a frame to set in.. I have to set the board underneath but got the pole on the other side set and used the door and other pole to keep it level..got a lot of work to do with the run. Unrolled the 25' of 1/4" hardware wire, got it folded so there will be 12" outward and got that roll attached with screws and washers.. 25' didn't go very far.. boy this run is going to break me $$ wise..!!!

Yes, it is expensive using the hardware cloth, but look at it this way....you can rest easy knowing your flock is safe and you'll never have to replace it!!

The coops on here are fabulous. I'm a little embarrassed to post mine. When I turned 66 I retired. I already had my chickens. I had two very small bought coops that I had under a canopy to keep the rain out. When the canopy started to dry rot I had the thought to build a canopy out of wood and shingles. I found some posts on the side of the road and that started it.

They were too tall, so I first cut them down and set four of them as the beginning framework around which I would build the shelter.
400

I framed out the roof. I got a broken pack of shingles for $11 from Lowe's.
400

I added plywood and shingles to the roof.
400

I painted and added trim and a little turkey decoration to finish the shelter.
400

BUT I HATED HOW THE COOPS FIT INDER THE SHELTER!!!!
400

So, I decided to build a coop under the shelter. I did not buy many materials. It was almost built entirely from leftovers I had or materials I found on the side of the road. But I did start with foundation blocks from Lowe's.
400

I put in a very sturdy floor and outlining framework. I added a linoleum floor and caulked it.
400

I bought a cheap screen door on sale at Lowe's and cut off the bottom. I painted it and added hardware cloth. I then made panels for the front, painted them and added hardware cloth. I put some old heavy posts to reinforce each side of the door.
400

I made the sides out of panels I built from repurposed wood. I painted plywood for the back and top.
400

I painted and stained, added trim and perches.

I then got some great outdoor, waterproof fabric on sale at JoAnn's and made a poop sling which is connected by Velcro to two dowels. Once a week I take it off, dump the poop, hose it off and replace it in the coop. It drys very quickly. The process is easy because of the Velcro.

I don't know what I spent on everything, but pretty sure it was under $200. The main thing is how much fun I had and I really like how it came out. Now I am going to build a little house with a porch to keep my supplies in.

WOW!! I think you did a fabulous job! I especially like those four columns on each of your corners...makes it look "elegant" like a mini plantation house!! And since you live in such a warm and humid part of the country I think your girls will be so happy with their new digs!

I did notice two things you might want to change....

1. Those roost bars...you should probably use a 2 x 4 laying flat instead of those round dowels. Why? Chickens like to "sit" on their feet when they roost. Chickens aren't like parakeets/parrots...they don't "curl" their toes to roost. They like to sit on their feet, plus when it does get chilly it will help keep their feet warm.

2. I see you're using a poop tarp with your nesting boxes directly underneath. You could solve that problem (and make your life soooo much easier) if you replace that tarp-sling with what they call a "poop tray" under their roosts....here's an example of mine:

The bottom "tray thingie" is just 2 x 4's sandwiching a 1/2" piece of plywood so it makes a tray of sorts. Then fill it with Sweet PDZ Granular ... you will NEVER regret it. Why? Takes me maybe 3-4 minutes each morning to use my kitty little scoop (you can see it in the upper left corner of my pic) smooth out the PDZ....DONE! And it makes the coop smell so nice, too! Just an idea for you, and you could get rid of that tarp thing...that must be awful when it comes time to clean it!

Goodness gracious sakes alive.....how cool !!! It is so much prettier than mine!!! Mine is rather rough and also made out of recycled ... everything I could find to use....working on the run now..which is the most expensive part of mine!
