post your chicken coop pictures here!

No way I'd use it for food/water.

Rain barrels at ace hardware and at amazon.com.
I appreciate the advise. I think I just solved my problem. I ordered a new one from Walmart with free shipping (food grade) for 84.23 with taxes. It comes with the a spigot already attached. If should be here February. Meanwhile, I can use the suspect one for building the platform the good one will sit on.

We got a great one from Sams Club last year. Spigot with planter in the top. I can't remember how much it was though. Gonna have to see if I can find it.

Here's a pic of it. I can't see a price for it but I can't imagine I'd have paid more than $75 for it!!

I plan on building an exterior platform for the barrel (where the clean one will sit) and run a hose from it, into the coop into a gravity fed chicken fountain. With the amount of birds that will occupy the coop it will save on wear and tear on my back hauling water they decided to knock over or poop on. This way, with a mega fountain, they should all be hydrated for quite awhile. And I can refill the good blue barrel with a hose. No more poop, no more wear and tear on my messed up old back.

Well to my sorrow my words fell upon deft ears concerning my husband procrastinating to build a safer coop and run... Upon retuning home tonight we discovered one hen injured to the point that she had to be put down.... More possible pending a full inspection tomorrow morning. My husband is devastated because he's the one that's been putting off the build 'until hunting season' was over.

Please do me a favor tomorrow and get one of those wooden yard long rulers. Then, smack him upside the head with it for not building the coop way back before hunting season even got started when he had plenty of time to put up protection and such for your girls. And tell him to not expect much sympathy from any of us.

Oh he's beating himself up so bad right now... I made him end the poor girl last night. I've got to watch a disabled child this morning but as soon as I'm done I'm going shopping... Our rooster is missing a patch of feathers on his butt... One hen flew (yes she was that scared) into the next yard..... One was huddled under the shelter I put up and the rest are very skittish.... I fear we might lose at least a few more to shock...

Good, but just let us know that there's some of us lobbying for a more physical abusing of the big dummy. Just remember the rule of thumb. Us a stick on him no wider than your thumb.
