post your chicken coop pictures here!

Just want to show you a little support!! I hope he gets it done. The bathtub through the floor? I'd still soak in it!! But really, good luck with everything!! I look forward to hearing about it being done. :D

He tried once.. Couldn't do it... Best thing he could describe was it would tie in with the back of the old shed, slant away for drainage and look something like the coop from the tv show Mountain Men....

can't wait to see what his brothers make of that description lol...

:welcome
Can't tell from the photo but is the wire buried down into the ground to keep out digging predators?  If not then a paver stone walkway around the base of the pen/coop will discourage digging critters.  Stray dogs and raccoons are our worst pests and having a paver stone patio around the coop perimeter saved our hens!

I do not have any burried. Paver stone is a good idea. Thanks.

Sometimes we just want them to listen.

Yep, women just want to be heard/to freely complain/be acknowledged/or listened to in order to feel complete and don't always need to be "fixed". Unfortunately, men feel helpless about a perceived problem and want to "fix" the women's problem/complaint immediately to feel themselves justified in her eyes. Of course, there are some men that just don't give a dam* because they don't understand this simple difference in the sexes. I'm fortunate to have a great DH but sometimes he forgets that I don't ALWAYS need "fixing" if I voice a problem or complaint. Only a very loud voice from me alerts him that THAT is when it really needs immediate action!

How to make water:
Combine two parts Hydrogen atoms with 1 part Oxygen atoms, add sufficient energy to combine. Quantity of each depends on how much water you want to make

There are tons of ideas on providing water for your chickens on BYC - search the forums.

re: Grandpa's feeder - HOLY MOLY $195 for the small one?????? OUCH. Are you or anyone you know decently handy with wood working? There are several plans to make your own treadle feeder here and elsewhere on the web. Not overly complicated as far as wood working goes. Heck, if they are still teaching wood shop in middle/Jr High school, maybe you can convince the teacher or one of the kids to decide that is the project they should work on. Tell them you will be happy to pay for the supplies for one of them and there are probably plenty of other chicken "farmers" in town that would like one as well.

Grandpa's treadle feeder and another wooden treadle feeder model were considered by me but I don't like the feeder lid coming down on a chicken's neck if another chicken holding down the treadle happens to walk away while the other chicken not on the pedal is still eating (Grandpa's is nice because it has side barriers that keep other chickens from feeding at the sides when another chicken has the treadle open but I still don't like the lift-up lid -- these lift-up lid models are not as tall as the inward swinging access treadle feeders). On eBay and on ChickenCondos.com the galvanized models are the kind of treadles that open the feed access from the front inward of the feeder so if if slams shut it doesn't whack the chicken above the head/neck (a couple times getting whacked from overhead could keep the spooky chickens from using a treadle). Everyone needs to do what works for them and my final decision is to get the ChckenCondos Cove Product treadle feeder. It's bigger than I need for 5 chickens so it will never be filled to the top but at least it will keep the *!#*!* wild birds out of my organic feed. The average price for these taller galvanized feeders are in the $100+/- range whether you go on eBay and pay shipping or get it from some other online company. There's a cabinet company in OKLA that sells his homemade inward access treadle feeders but his assembly video was too much for me to deal with but he has a good price on his 26# medium galvanized model at about $79 (his smaller size was too small IMO):

400

This is our little coop for our two girls. They are only in when the lay and at night and roam the yard all day...the poop is a wonderful addition to our patio. ;-) Anyway, as you can see it was our kid's old playhouse.
