post your chicken coop pictures here!

thank you, we hope she wins 1st place. she has been working on this for about 3 mths, and by the way she did it with no help, has her own work shop, don't even have a dh to tell her what she is doing wrong, lol

Here is mine, simple and basic but gets the job done. I have three girls and I let them run around most of the day, so this is just for sleeping.

I still have some fine tuning to do with trim and decorations.

Stupid rain.... Stupid wood.... Stupid sickness..... I WANT MY COOP FINNISHED!!!!!!!!!
:he
We've restocked all the damaged wood and invested in hardware mesh instead of the chicken wire we had... Instead of closing the whole thing with solid walls with vents we will build the frame, floor and 1 side solid and wrap the rest with wire. The top will be covered with sheet metal sloping to allow rain run off but high enough to keep them off the hot surface. The solid side will be detachable for clean out along with a flip open top on the nest boxes. A neat but simple 4'x8' floor plan with stair case roosts on both sides and gravity feed PVC pipe feeder and water on the inside and suspended 3.5 gal plus 3lb feeder outside the coop will allow plenty of access during the hot summer... A small deer feeder full of oyster shells and scratch grain will automatically throw out mix every 3 hours with a off switch at night... The whole coop will be 2' off the ground on cinder blocks and the ramp will be from below for safe area during bad weather... This will be inside a 1/4 acre lot with 6' privacy fence on 2 sides and 4' on the other 2. An electrical wire will be on the top to denture climbing critters and a skirting of wire buried 6" deep and 1' out will stop diggers... I plan on putting bird mesh over half the yard to keep them safe from the Hawks and stray Eagles in the area along with several bolt covers for quick hides.

This has been in the works for months now and I'm finally seeing some ground work. The old fence is clear of the trees and bushes and the layout for the privacy fence is finally underway. All the wood and supplies have been gathered and the kids start back to school in August so I will be free to work during the day without worrying about my 5 yr old opening the door AGAIN. He stats kindegardan!!!! With his big sister to help this year will be better.

I've currently got 7 hens, 1 roo, 3 pulltets that are about 5 months old and several new arrivals ranging from 3 weeks old to hatchling last night with 3 pips on the move. I'll be hopping soon.

I'm not really sure where to post this question, so I'm starting here... is there a special place where you can get the 1/4" by 48" by 100' hardware cloth? And what Guage do you get?

Personal opinion: I would not buy 1/4" hardware cloth:
- The 23 gauge wire is fairly thin so it is easier to break.
- You don't need to have 1/4" holes to keep predators out.
- 1/2" hc is 19 gauge so it is stronger and the holes are plenty small enough to keep out predators.
- If a predator can rip through 19 gauge 1/2" hardware cloth, 1/4" will be even easier.

I think you are unlikely to find the long rolls at local hardware and big box stores. I found it online - Amazon, though I got 36" wide since I didn't need wider. Free shipping is the only way to go since given the weight of a 100' roll would likely be really expensive.
