Here are few pics of my under construction 4.25' x 7' chicken coop. I made the mistake of trying to make it without a written plan just based on inspiration of one I saw on a Chicago chicken tour. Now that I am half done any suggestions how to make it better.

BTW the sealed window you see in pic number 3 will open into my garage where there will be a back-up coop if gets really nasty cold and snow gets into the main coop. The door will be on the left side.

If built properly you shouldn't get snow in it,Iit might be handy to have the window that close for electricity for lights and water heater etc.Looks good so far.

Here's mine.

I'm very happy with this style hoop-coop (4' x 8') and all built from scratch. I was going to do an add-on to my hoop-house (greenhouse) because I had plans to put a rocket mass heater and thought I could keep both the hoop-house and coop at a decent temp during the winter. But decided to make a bender for EMT conduit to give me a 4' width instead of using PVC. Having 3/4" EMT leaves me room to insulate if necessary using either Tekfoil or sandwich material between the metal roof and plastic wall material.

My run is basically the same but is 5' in width and 10' in length with wheels to lift and lower. The cool thing about it is it fits perfectly to the coop butted up together giving me 18' in length for them to scratch at the grass.

Here are my girls inside. All of them are now 5mths old.

Cheers,
Mike

Here is my Chicken Ranch on Esplendido Ave in Vista, Ca, just added the covered run on the right last month.
Your ranch is amazing, 16 paws!!! I am beyond impressed!

Here are pictures of the coop I built with a friend into the existing structure of my deck. I used all recycled wood - the only thing I paid for was the wire and the hardware. I even found a whole finished door on the street, after we had just built another, almost identical door. 2 doors for the win! It has proven to be extremely secure, after 17 months. The only thing I need to replace is the top board of the nesting box (repurposed, particle-board cabinet). I also have heavy-duty plywood panels on top of the deck during the rainy season. I used tree branches for the roosts.

It is about 80 square feet. I let the hens out for supervised ranging for about an hour a day.

Got some pics of how you made and used your bender??

Would be cool if you could post them over in the inventions thread.
