post your chicken coop pictures here!

Sylvester- I put a cross piece on the ramp that is wider than the pop door but will fit in diagonally. To attach I just lift the ram, turn it sideways and the cross piece fits in the coop, holding the ramp in place.

A BRILLIANT idea. I don't have a pop door on our coop but need the ramp for nestbox access. But will DEFINITELY remember this for a pop door - Thanks!

Definitely one of the better ideas in the running so far. Our problem is going to be the the nestbox platform comes out about 6 inches and any mechanisms (hooks, hinges, screws, etc) will cause a gap between the ramp and the ledge for hook-up causing a crevice that might catch/break the toes of the chickens. So far just letting the ramp rest unattached is the safest way that won't create gaps for the chickens to get caught in. We tried free-standing little step ladders but the chickens wouldn't use them - especially if they were made from metal or plastic and/or rubberized steps. We know they will use a wood ramp but our old one was too narrow and flimsy from the builder who made it and it just leaned loosely on the nestbox ledge - the chickens used it but the heavier hens kept knocking it down. We love this coop as it was a custom built one at the feed store but the ramp is a skimpy 6 inches wide so we built a wider heavier one. Just need to make sure it is anchored well. We figured a heavy cinder-block at the bottom of the ramp on the ground will keep it from sliding off and hope the weight of the new one will keep it from shifting. We need an easily removable ramp at cleaning time so really don't want to permanently attach it. Your idea is a nice setup and we surveyed the possibility but there is still a crack/gap that can catch chicken toes. A real bummer but we are going to try the cinder-block. Keep the ideas coming as something has GOTTA work somehow! Thanks!

Can you post a pic of your coop, so we can maybe get some ideas?

See my coop and skimpy ramp at the bottom of Post #1735. My chickens like the ramp but it is so narrow at 6 inches and lightweight that the bigger hens knock it down all the time. I need it to be secure from getting knocked down but not permanently so it can remove easily when cleaning the little coop. Any inputs welcome - thanks!

Looks like you have enough room to hinge the ramp and put an eye hook on the end to hold up for coop cleaning.

I just used a door hinge, can flip it up if I want or pull the pin if I want to remove it....no pinched toes.

You might need to attach a length of 2x2 to both ramp and shelf to screw to door hinge into.

You could also attach a couple of long bolts to the ramp and drill angled holes into the shelf for the bolts to go thru.
