post your chicken coop pictures here!

Dang. I didn't even think about that.
Well, I'll have to figure that out.
There is space inside the henhouse.
But I was hoping they'd use these boxes.

During rainy blowing wind the nesting material will get damp with that open wall. Just shelter the wall against wind, rain, light, to make it secure and private and you may be fine as is.

Won't your DH notice the mysterious posts going up one by one?

LOL Yea, it doesn't make good sense does it? DH was sitting right beside me! I was trying to make it short and sweet... What I meant to say was..... When he drove in the drive, he was talking to my daughter and was distracted with her.... he isn't the type that really looks at all the details out there until its time to weedeat on weekends...THEN he notices everything..LOL So I try to work on this as much as possible but keep things looking normal, like keeping things pretty neat (things on the ground lined up, etc)...the most important and most difficult is keeping myself looking "normal"...this RMSF has caused me to lose some weight/muscle tone and my face gets pretty pale when I over exertion and the ....so I have to watchout for the obvious too... LOL This whole time I've followed the general rule of ..."I'd rather get it done and then forgiveness than to ask permission which I knew I wouldn't get!"

And I mean that in a funny, laughing sort of way. I have a very sweet dh but he is the type A personality married to a Z personality! He is an accountant and I'm an artsy person...he has never denied me anything we could afford...he just usually laughs about it to others and just shakes his head.... He's so good....just NOT a chicken man! NOT a big one for change...!!

Remember to listen to your body too, getting the coop done a few weeks later is nothing compared to being bed ridden for month due to not following your doctor's orders.

We finished the coop today! My chooks are VERY happy to have a permanent home. This is the free coop I began with. See those banana trees in the back? I traded the coop and 3 hens for some trees. The coop was just as tall as those white legs. We put it up on stilts to begin with. Once it was up, my friend Joe framed the run. We used wood from a couple of pallets we scavenged. I bought the plywood for the roof and the treated baseboards. Joe made a door from the pallet wood.
LL
I put hardward cloth all around, leaving a 6-8" skirt at the bottom. Bertha is checking out her new digs. Finished inside, with two barrel nesting boxes. Finished outside. I'm happy. The girls are happy. THIS is the only problem. Bertha is the first bird to bed each night. She gets in there and hops up on the roost. Then Penny, seen here, goes up the ladder and turns AROUND, facing the doorway and daring the other girls to step on her ladder! She pecks the heck out of them when they approach. It's like a game. They go up, she chases them down. They go up, she chases them down. Finally, I have to step in and push her into the coop, then the others can go to bed. What a pill! Is this normal? Sheesh! I love her dearly - she's a sweet girl to humans, but she's mean as a snake to the smaller two hens. She may have to become Sunday dinner if she doesn't ease up. Anyway, I'm tired, and happy the coop's finished. Tomorrow we'll fence off an outdoor run, and will be done. Hooray!
very cute

but a "friend" promised this coop finished back in April! I kept giving him the benefit of the doubt because he did have a full time job. But 15 yrs ago, I would have already had this put together and the chickens in the run and I would have had it Predator Proof...I'm not one for half-way doing something either.. If I take on responsibility of an animal...I take it personal! This guy didn't understand that which means I'm having to go back over what little he did and do things like putting hardware wire the inside of the coop between the 2x4's due to too much "ventilation".... We have rodents/snakes, etc and I have a balance problem! I have to watch out for falls, etc So I understand where my dh of 45 yrs is coming from. He fears for my well-being....He absolutely puts me first on his list...way higher than he puts my chicken! LOL

However, I know you are right...I will try to keep myself in check especially on these hot days...!!! Well, I'm off to a dr's appt....see you all later... When I get back,, I may try to get another hole dug depending on the fatigue level and the heat. I got two done yesterday..only because we had good cloudy skies. I don't have but a couple more to do! Yea!

Be safe out there... If your like me then the heat index hits 100+ by 10am... Maybe a little later if there is cloud coverage... Don't over do it... I'm getting the layout for my 8'x4' ready today while my husband isn't here... I'll let him bolt everything down and such... I'm just trying to figure our how to make it fast, safe and (God willing
