post your chicken coop pictures here!

When I put the perches in my coop I was hanging the perches on hardware cloth on both ends, by myself. I was using a washer and screw in each end. Problem was when I would try to screw the screw into the end, the perch would spin along with the screw. I needed someone to hold the perch still while I screwed, but no one around. So, here was my solution. I wrapped duct tape around the perch on the inside, making two tabs of each end of the duct tape. I threaded the two ends through the hardware cloth to the outside. The duct tape was around the perch on the inside and by holding the tabs, I could hold the perch still. Then I went to the outside and held the tabs and screwed the screws into the perch with no problem. I hope you could understand this. If anyone has ever needed a solution to this and can't follow my explanation, I'd be willing to recreate it and take fotos.

......Sadly,,,,I can actually picture me doing something like this..Since I have done so much by trial and error...thus probably rebuilding most of the coop at least twice!! Have had to do like you..I would listen to advice but most of the time I'm by myself so I have to just figure it out...

that's ok, when I get this done it will be because "I" figured it out and did it inspite of not having much help at all

When I put up my perch in this new coop I'm going to get a few small pieces of 2x4s and make a U cradle for easy removal and cleaning secured with screws... Just put the 2x4 perch in the cradle

Hello Latestarter,

Your build is great. I love the twin coops and your reason for them.

How about an update?

How did you finish the siding? Color? New pics?

Good luck... My husband STILL hasn't got our new one built.... Now that SEC has kicked off I'll be lucky to get it done before Halloween....
Hide the remote. Do it early in the week so that he has time to get it done before which ever sissy SEC team he follows games kicks off. They never come north where it might snow because they're big weines!! All of the bigger bowl games are in the south, and heck, you can't even get a halfway decent program to come up in play in a bowl game that would be in a climate controlled dome. They might see a snow flake during practice! Can't have that.

AND YOU CAN TELL HIM I SAID ALL OF THAT ABOUT HIS PROGRAM!!

there, now if that doesn't get the man motivated to build you a chicken coop, he's **** lazy and won't defend his programs honor enough to paint a chicken coop in his program's colors. ;-)

It's nice to use recycled materials but don't skimp on better steps for the ramp.  Too many cracks and crevices to trap chicken toes/toenails.  We sanded all rough edges or splinters on the pieces we used for steps.

That was the tep my sone built...lol. we talked aboit splinters and toes, and agreed to build a better one. But we didnt take pictures after the first day! I'll post some of the "real" step, and the run soon!

Are you sure you want to use DE? It's just not worth the risk in my mind.

This thread is about coop design...so I'm trying not to get into a whole "thing" about DE :) but to ease some minds... I use it sparingly. Around trees with ants, sprinkle it around my house to deter bugs, on vegie garden for afids ect., poop droppings to deter flies, sprinkle in nest boxes so they won't have mites living in there waiting on my hens to nest ect. And I really don't see any difference or harm in how I use it compared to my chickens dust bathing...it is "dust" bathing after all. ;) end of hijack

I had some people say the slanted nesting boxes wouldn't work and I was disappointed to hear that. I am happy to report the slanted boxes work beautifully and the eggs roll back out of the nest and away from the chickens which is good because they have four nest boxes and only use one sometimes two hens at a time.
Where did my eggs go?

I did move the dowel out farther from the boxes. and now that they are older the ramp is gone as well.

The chicken Run is finished and the Chicken Fountain provides fresh clean water all day with no human intervention. (I check it regularly though) The Automatic chicken door opens and closes flawlessly each morning and night. And as you can see they also have a swing and a roost in the covered run.

and finally I built a brooder area on the man side of the coop behind and below the back of the nesting boxes. The established chickens can see and get used to the new little ones hopefully easing the transition into the main coop and run. If not then maybe another chicken door and run off the other side and and a split flock.

Its been great and the proof is on the plate

We have finished our coop for the most part. Still have a few minor touches and need to clean up. We bought a Rubbermaid shed and used an old dog kennel, used the poles from an old trampoline to make the roof to the run.
