post your chicken coop pictures here!

Hey there @Granny368W
! :welcome and the thread! I'm a fan of the pulletshut door; http://chickendoors.com/ There are others out there. Don't see any reason why any camera wouldn't work. Just has to be within range of the receiver unit, or wired. Of course it's beneficial to have enough light for the camera to see (at night) unless it's IR capable... Lots of folks on BYC have cameras in their coops. Sorry, but I don't.

Thank you so much..... which door do you have? I have to look at these doors and figure out which one we should get...

x2 on that @Latestarter

Though that would make an EXCELLENT goat house... ME want one...

Does anybody know where I can purchase an automatic door opener? A good one! And I was wondering if a nanny cam would work in the hen house? We soon have to start working on the run. ugh!! We have still been getting thunderstorms, tomorrow is supposed to be big ones...

A BYCer used a video nanny cam to watch her two pet chickens out in the foraging pen far from the house and she could watch and monitor and hear them without running outdoors every 10 minutes to check on them.

You're on your own on the door opener. There's one on ChickenCondos.com that seems good but I chose not to get any openers. Instead I was looking at timers with pullies at around $179 on the following link if ever I decide to make my door automatic in the future http://www.backyardchickencoops.com.au/coop-accessories/automatic-chicken-door-opener/ We just aren't sure we need it yet but might activate it on a particular evening that we might possibly be gone at dusk - not likely but it sounds like an option for us if needed.

After our interrupting sprinkling rains for two weeks we couldn't work on our coop. Now it's blazing 90-95 degrees and we have to work super early in the morning until 9 or 10 a.m. or else start at 4-4:30 afternoon until dusk - either way the weather is crazy to work in! We would've been done maybe 2 weeks ago if the weather hadn't been so damp and sh*tty!

I have just joined. But I would like to share my hard work. this is the beginning stage of my project of turning my dog house into a coop. I will have it finished my Fathers day, and will post the finished project.

You are putting this inside an enclosed pen? How many chickens do you plan to house in it? I've got 4 large recycled doghouses placed around our yard for the hens to snooze/hide in and a regular larger pen for them to roost and lay their eggs. At first we thought we would start finding them laying their eggs in the doghouses but they faithfully return to the coop when it comes time to brood or lay.

Hi there from another Granny in New Zealand.I recently purchased the'' Chickenguard'' door opener.I'm extremely pleased with it.Had it shipped from England. It was expensive but I think worth it.I like that it has a choice of light levels and a timer. I have it set to close at dusk and open in the morning at a time I choose. I bought the extreme model as it lifts a heavier door and I didn't want to ask hubby to make a lighter one or me have to paint it!There is an excellent review on this site which explains all the features.I'm not technically minded but I managed to mount it and set timing etc. There is also a You Tube video made by the company explaining how to set it.Also it's battery operated.

I have an ADOR door and really like it. I don't have electric on my chicken tractor, so being battery operated was important for me. It was super easy to install, I did it by myself (my first time building something). They may have an electric option, I do not know.
If I had electricity I would have looked for one that would be easy for me to also manually open/close when I wanted to and one that had a timer in addition to the sun up and sun down. I do like the second chance on the ADOR, that reopens momentarily to give any late comers a chance to come in.

Hope this helps, good luck with your build.

I figured it would be easier to see what I'm working with with a picture of the tree house in the daylight. We're trying to figure out a way to enclose the top level seeing as how we live in rural Alabama and predators are drawn to our 5 acres. The area in the actual tree house is 4x6ft. Would that be enough room for our 13 hens?

That doesn't seem like enough room for 13 hens (room for about half that in normal 4 sq ft per bird terms), but there are ways you might be able to make it work. If you can get 1' of roost space per bird comfortably into the house then it could work as a roosting coop only (it looks like it might be tall enough to pull this off). You could enclose the base with wire and give a trap/ramp access to that as a protected run with more roosts. You could also add additional framing to the top deck and enclose that for them as more run space. And you can add external nest boxes so that you don't take up any valuable coop space with those.

It's a very cool little tree house and I think it could be amazing with some planning.
