I should take some pictures of my garage roof tarp temporary repair. It was an expensive reinforced heavy duty tarp but over the summer the wind shredded it. Its totally trashed and i had boards nailed firmly along all the edges. It just thrashed it against the damaged roof so much it just shredded. I first used it to protect the barn roof boards until i could finish the shingles and i kept adding more and more boards in the middle to keep it from billowing and it still blew off. You cant reinforce a tarp or plastic too much.

Nice and not an interruption. How many mil thick is the plastic.

We get ripping winds so strong anything built with a roof has to be anchored. If you have very strong winds you might also consider some hay bales on the wind side to reduce the impact on the coop.

Not sure, it's our first winter with chickens. We picked out the most durable plastic rolls available at Menards, so.. We'll see! It's saposed to be a mild winter (for once) where we live so I'm pretty happy about that.

And before I screwed in the lath pieces, I reinforced the edges with Gorilla duct tape. Tedious, but I hope it will help.

I'm about as far Northern Wisconsin as you can get. About an hour from the Michigan border. Been to Montana a couple times. Very nice scenery out west!

My husband was planning on using the lath method but he's been working a lot, and we had freezing rain a couple weeks ago, and I had to get the stuff on right away. So I stapled the heck out of it. I have a special needs chicken who I had to keep out of the elements. (Our chickens are much loved pets.. Not dinner). It may come back to haunt me.

I think it's 6 ml high vis.


Thanks to El Niño it should be a mild winter here which is great, my lil flock of 9 were mostly born in April so this is their first winter. It's been in the high 30s here lately when usually it's around 15. It can be brutal, I wish we could relocate, but my husband has a good job so he won't go.

I would reinforce it now if you have the time, then the plastic should stay. just staples probably won't work to good on its own, I tried that last year for just a portion on mine, the staples ripped the plastic with the wind. I had to reinforce it. I live in Minnesota.

Yeah, I think you can reinforce it after the fact.
Just put a line of duct tape over the edges and when you or your husband have time, add the lath. Start with the windy side.

That duct tape is awesome stuff.

It held my horse's shelter together a solid two years. I used duct tape on the joints because the wind would have rattled the carport shelter apart. Then I used Baling twine to lash the legs to the pipecorral then duct taped the bailing twine to cover the fastening ponts ( to keep the twine from slipping ) Then as an after thought I used duct tape to cover the twine so the sun didnt rot it.

It took two years before the duct tape started to disintegrate. Then oNe night we had 60mph gusts I could hear that shelter fill up with air and loft and come back down hundreds of times during the night. Next morning I found my horse standing in a sea of pipe leggs and ripped up tarp ... Wiggling a leg with her upper lip. She turned and looked at me and was like... "What?' Goof ball.

Most horses would have been snorting rattlesnakes.
