post your chicken coop pictures here!

It's our big secret, lol. We can get about 60% of our house energy needs for the year covered by a solar system in SW Washington State (more in Eastern Wa, I would imagine).
Not much being generated now, I can assure you, but we sell energy back to the electric co. in the summer and get credit.
In summer, our panels are actually more efficient than those in areas like the SW US, because the panels are less efficient in temps >85f.

The state incentives are sooo good here, that combined with the Federal tax credit, we can pay for the installation over 5 years.
Now that might have been TMI, but once I get started....run away! :weee

(interesting info about the wind turbines, too!)

Can you please tell me about the incentives? How can I find out if our state gives incentives for wind power? Who installs the wind mill? Oh my,so many questions..... Rae

There are some wind power companies that flooded the Eastern U.S. and some Midwest states with glorious pitches on having a windmill on their private property. A documentary interviewed some of the communities and individuals who contracted for a mill on their property and how noisy and unbelievable tall and unsightly the mill was churning 24 hours a day never giving the residents a moments silence for rest or sleeping. If you get a mill, make sure it is far far far far away from a residence or animal buildings or the incessant mill churning will upset peaceful life as you or the animals once knew it.

Ok, i know what ovation means but what is an ovation in this forum?

It can mean you agree with the posted information, or you find the post helpful, or you want to leave a short comment about the post, but mainly it means the post is highly accurate and/or helpful. Many have simply posted "Thank you" in the ovation if they found the post helpful/informative. Many just leave their avatar in the ovation as acknowledgement that they like a post.

Ok, now, how do i create an ovation? And how do i leave an avatar and what is an avatar??? Im not a social forum genius like my wife and most kids i know. Used to write programs and build computers and still create fancy VB xl work sheets but never got into the social stuff :)

You 'click' on the thumbs up icon on the lower right of the post. Enter a comment, if you like, then click 'add to reputation'. You don't have to comment, BTW.

Your Avatar is the picture under your name on the left side of any post that you make. If you click on your name, you can add/upload an Avatar, and any other personal info that you choose, like your geographic area.

The avatar is the picture that represents you. Right now you don't have one selected, so there's a shadow of a chicken where your selected picture would be. My avatar is a picture of me. Lynnehd's avatar is (I assume) her on a bike on the beach. You can select an avatar for yourself or change one you have by mousing over your forum name at the top right, and selecting "Change My Avatar". You can then select to upload something from your computer within a reasonable size. I don't remember the specifics, but you can go to your profile and read up on it also.
