post your chicken coop pictures here!

Yeah right.... Bad weather for 3 weekends solid. This Saturday I'm going on an outing with the family and my husband is taking Monday and Tuesday off JUST to "build" my coop

Ya we have been having bad weather our selfs the other day we had 60 mile an hour winds a day or two before that we had gusts of 50-70 miles an hour and here the wind is picking up now it's been in the 40 miles an hour winds before it started to go up a bit but can't wait to see pics of the coop when it's done

Out of curiosity I just checked out the site in question, I was in one sentences before the grains of salt started to flow O'Plenty... It's clear she relies heavily on false dichotomy as well as hyperbole for many of her proclamations, while others are just flat untruths...

What is the site called, you have spiked my curiosity?

Just Google 'Becky's Homestead'

You are thinking safety and are to be applauded for that! We all do what we can to keep them safe. Corn - my DH calls it "crack" for chickens (you know, "crack"-ed corn)! We've been giving our 4 hens corn-on-the-cob or canned-corn because it's hard for the little Silkie beaks to get around big rough dry kernels. Becky's Homestead on youtube said to give chickens whole corn rather than broken bits for locked-in nutrition but don't know if she knows what she's doing. Guess, for her, dry whole corn works. We use dry mealworms or shelled raw sunflower seeds as treat baits to get them to do what we want. Actually, thinking about it, just about any food works -- cucumbers, cantaloupe, blueberries, cooked shrimp, flatbread, cooked brown rice, wild birdseed, -- the list goes on!

When I was ranging them, my bantams would sometimes not return because they were on the bottom of the order. I lured them in with corn and they gobbled it up as fast as the large ones. That won't be an issue any more because I don't want to find any missing at night.

I got some pics of the run and brood pen with a tunnel. It's blocked off right now so can't really see it well but the hens can't get through it so will leave the pens set up this way till I feel they will all get along. Still have to put up the deer wire and close off the end. Soon as I get the last pen inside I will do that, probably today. Then all that's left is installing the tunnels, moving the ramp/door to the run side of the coop and waiting for the chicks to get big enough to try merging them with the hens.

Still have a lot of tidying up to do and get the chips down (FFF was out of wood chips yesterday) Might mix it with straw til I get a good layer on the ground. Still have to build and install a sliding barn door in the front for getter access. Going to look into that right now :)
