post your chicken coop pictures here!

I'm a first-time backyard chicken guy. Took ideas from many sites on the interweb and came up with this. So far so good. We have two buff orpingtons, two silver laced wyandottes and two black austrolorps. They're nine weeks and doing great! Looking forward to some great-tasting, natural eggs this fall.

Nice little coop, but that run is going to be too small for the number of birds, even if you move it around a lot. They may find the coop a bit too small once grown, as well. Those are some larger breeds.

Well Worth it though. I primarily use kennel panels. and you can add to them as well.

i saw they have a kennel at the local costco..

i think you can use this as a run for the chickens.. a bit pricey though

I recently priced 10' x 6' panels at a True Value to add to my run $80 per panel. With the extras you get with this $429 doesn't seem like a bad deal. Yhe only problem with using dog kennel panels your still gonna have to cover the lower 2ft with hardware cloth to keep predators from reaching in, more expense. I used a dog kennel for my first run because I already had it. I'm seriously thinking additional run with be made from lumber and hardware cloth.

Agreed - Kennels are pricey but in the long run they are so worth it! We kept looking on the internet and one day Walmart had a special ASPCA kennel 4x8 with gabled roof and cover marked down to $300. There are deals out there but sometimes it takes watchful time and energy to find the deals.

That's the Barn Coop and kennel we got last year. We got the 4x4 Barn Coop with added 4x4 run attachment special ordered to go with it. This company is based in Utah and also make K-9 Dog Kennels. We were able to custom modify our coop-and-run from their website accessories. For instance, we didn't want the PVC feeders and asked them to weld the hole shut where the feeders entered the run. We ordered both a solid clean-out tray and a wire-kennel clean-out tray (one for winter and one for summer), we ordered a 4x4 run attachment instead of the usual 4x6 run, they changed the door location on the run for us, we wanted a manual pop-door, we got a couple treadle feeders and predator night eyes, and many other modifications they did for us. It came with 5 perch mounts which we only needed one. They claim 15-16 chickens are accommodated but mfrs exaggerate the number of chickens that comfortably fit in their coops. We certainly wouldn't put more than 8 chickens in it and find it perfect for just our 4 free-range chickens. ChickenCondos.com also makes a newer all-plastic coop model that looks somewhat similar to the Omelet EGLU but is sturdier and more functional than EGLU - IMO.

SEVERAL PHOTOS OF OUR CHICKEN CONDOS BARN COOP 4x4 IN VARIOUS STAGES OF ASSEMBLY. THE YOUTUBE VIDEOS FROM CHICKEN CONDOS HELPED US ASSEMBLE THIS COOP. THIS COOP IS VERY EASY TO ASSEMBLE WITH NUTS AND BOLTS UNTIL YOU GET TO THE ROOF AND WHEEL PACKAGE -- WE ENLISTED OUR CONTRACTOR'S HELP TO FINISH IT. THIS IS A HEAVY COOP -- WE'RE SO GLAD WE GOT THE SMALLER SIZE AND WITH THE WHEEL PACKAGE! THE COOP STANDS TALLER THAN OUR SLIDING BACK DOOR. THE BEIGE COLOR BLENDS WELL WITH OUR HOUSE COLOR - THERE ARE 6 COLORS TO CHOOSE FROM. WE WEREN'T SURE THE HENS WOULD LIKE THE NESTBOXES BUT THEY ADJUSTED FINE. SILLY CHICKENS ONLY WANT THE SAME NESTBOX TO USE AND IGNORE ALL THE OTHERS!

WE RECENTLY INVESTED IN A FEED-O-MATIC TREADLE FEEDER FROM RENT-A-COOP - WE GOT THEIR SMALLEST SIZE (10-lb FEED) TO USE INSIDE THE COOP/RUN AND USE THE CHICKEN CONDOS TALLER FEEDERS IN THE YARD. WE LIKE THE PLASTIC LOCKING TOP LID ON THIS FEED-O-MATIC BUT THE FEED-TRAY LID MAKES A LOT OF NOISE COMING DOWN - USING A FOAM STRIP HELPS SOFTEN THE CLANKING NOISE TO THE JOY OF NEIGHBORS!

You can get dog kennels like that at tractor supply without the top on it and taller panels for 200 something

bought my panels through Home Depot before the steel prices went through the roof. I was paying 60 per panel that was 6x6 feet and 90 for the same size with a door. Then I found 12 x 6 panels at a local feed store for about 120 and bought a bunch of those

Home Depot no longer sells the panels Yard guard kennel panels are no longer made.... but essentially they are the same as those temporary fences they use for construction.
