post your chicken coop pictures here!

I love this story!

the reason I need it to house 30 birds is because my mom has a friend whos husband owns a chicken farm. and when her friend heard I liked chickens she asked if I wanted to come over and see them. so ofcourse i said yes because who wouldnt want to see some chickens? but I was not expecting the kind of farm they have. its like a FARM farm they have a very big thing going on over there because every two weeks on wensday they put several thousand eggs in the incubator to hatch (huge incubators like 7 feet tall and 8-9 feet deep and 5 feet wide and they have 5 of them! with big wheels inside to turn the eggs) these incubators hold about 100 trays of eggs and each tray holds about 90 to 100 eggs so again BIG incubators! anyways they have a lot of pretty chickens because they are all mix breeds and some of the roos are HUGE!!! I mean their wattles are 4-5 inches long and the roos them selves are about 3 feet tall! anyway when I get there they take me around and show me everything and then when we go to look at the breeding house (last thing) he has 30 eggs waiting for me! and of course because they had been so nice I did not want to say no because they had these eggs out before I had even got there and those eggs had been laid that morning. so thats how I ended up with 30 eggs along with the 6 I had that are due to hatch the 21st. so I need the coop to hold these birds till I can get rid of some roos and know that they are roos.

and I already have 3-5 people who want "organic" chicken and "organic" eggs so no problem there! and if I still have to many eggs I can donate them to the church! they are always cooking things so they could probobly use them. I plan to keep most ifnot all the hens and one roo per 8 hens because the roos that bred what will come out of these eggs were very docile.

free linoleum from a job we finished up. floor done roost bars are back in and walls covered. I think i am going to paint the inside and should have it all wired in this week . Weather is getting nice my chicks were out side all day in there brooder box and loving it,

karlamaria,
Sorry about not responding to your request. Just haven't been on the site much lately.
The coop is 9' X 6', I have four hens, if the nest/perch area was a little larger you could get in six.
Get back to me if you would like more info.

I just got that very same linoleum for my chicken houses...and when I mentioned it to the clerk at the bargain outlet he said that it seems to be very popular for that purpose...do you suppose that lots of chicken owners like their chickies to think that they are at the beach? That's why I got it...

Its possible... I used it cause it was left over from a job I am on. Plus i am at the beach and most of my yard is sand... tough to grow grass in

Our coop is done!!! It is an open air coop. The chickens love it!! We added a run on the side after I took this picture. The front is hardware cloth, There is a door on the left that now opens into the run.

I love this coop!!!!! I would really like to build this next time. What state do you live in? Wondering about your winters. I am in Northern NH, so wondering if this will work for me. Nice job, it's beautiful!

We did two things that make our coop efficient as well as uber-fun. I researched the heck out of ideas for efficiency. One was installing a poop board below the roost, including a trap door so that I can open it and shovel the poop straight into a garbage can. I cover the board with shaving pellets and then scoop it right off with one of those metal speckling knife thingee's. There's now minimal poop in the main area of the coop. The other best idea we had was to have a pole on the door to the run so that we can close it from the outside of the coop. We're urban chicken owners, so this makes it simple to walk out in our work clothes and open/close the coop; no need to get dirty unless we want to! I'm gonna try to post some pics below...if possible. Chicken owning is very fun!
