looks awsome still waiting to move the rose bush before we can build our run but as you know the weather here isnt cooperating. i still have to build pirches and nesting boxes but i have plenty of time our chicks wont be here till the 13th so plenty of time
Productive day doors done mesh wire done... Just need to finish some of the little things and make a door for the outside run and done the girls can come out !
I have NO money. Seriously, none, so I got some free shipping crates from the feed store and a friend gave me some chick netting. I scrounged some nails and screws and re-used some of the nails from the shipping crates.
This is the wood that came from those crates after I took them apart. There were about 4 pounds of nails. Many were ruined but about 2 pounds of them were useable.
This is the run and will be attached to the coop once I get the staples to attach the netting. It will be set up so I can pull it apart to move it. The sides are made from the sides of the shipping crates. No construction required.
Here is the coop before adding the final trim to the front. On the right side (behind the plywood) are two nest boxes and above them is a storage area. On the side is a door to access the nest boxes and the storage. I found two cabinet door hinges in my "stash" of stuff.
That little square on the lower right next to the nest boxes will be turned into a door and there will be a covered ramp going down into the outdoor run.
This is the coop with the trim added. Mama Hen and Baby Chick are checking the place out.
The only thing left to do is put on a roof and staple the chick netting to the coop run. That will have to wait till the first of the month when (and if) I can afford staples for the staple gun and if I can afford some used metal corrugated for the roof. Then it will be done.
What do you think? Is it big enough for two chickens?
CheezyChicken,
You did an excellent job with what you had. I'm tearing apart some pallets to build a coop also. I have a 3lb coffee can full of nails, and am working on a second can. My neighbor was replacing his roof with steel, and I got some scraps from him to do the roof, maybe you could look around where you live and find someone reroofing with steel and get some panels for your coop. Good luck
