Post your Feed Cost per Bag at Feed Store

Quote:
What do you store it in? It doesn't go bad?

I don't have a picture of mine (for some reason) but it's like this: http://www.choretimepoultry.com/product_images/FeedBinctbin_clr_boot_size600.jpg

I
don't have the auger going into the barn, I just made a large valve on the bottom that I use to fill a bucket.

This time of the year, I go through 1/2 ton a month feeding broilers and my laying hens. I really cut back on my hens this last winter, so I may have to have them bag it for me after processing time is done. I was told to never keep more than 1-2 months worth in my bin. It will lose nutrients and may spoil depending on the moisture content of the feed.

Very cool. Thanks for the pic, I don't think I would have understood without the visual.

Not to bad of a price actually considering it was $12.50 last summer.

Feed in Anchorage Alaska costs me about 16.00 for 50lbs of 20% crumbles. Now the shipping is what would kill someone in the bush, I live in Kotzebue, the only way to get here is by plane. If I didnt work for the airlines and wasnt able to make it to Anchorage as often as I could I wouldnt be able to afford having chickens! I fly down for the day to Anchorage, leave at 8 in the morning get there at 11 and go straight to the feed store, inter Alaska you are allowed 3, 50lb 'bags' and thats what I check, 3, 50lb bags of chicken feed! The girls at the Anchorage ticket counter know me for my feed bags! I'm guessing the shipping would be more than what the feed costs if shipped thru a cargo agency or post office!

Poulin Grain 20% chick starter at local independent farm store: $11.90 per 50# bag.
Poulin Grain layer pellets (I think 16%?) at same store: $10.50 per 50# bag.

I think there are small discounts starting with orders as small as 10 bags which I should take advantage of, but never have.
