Post Your First Egg of 2016!!!

My peahens haven't started laying yet either. Though I've seen my White peacock breeding most of his hens so I hope to be having eggs soon. Remember that peafowl are a wild species, they are not domesticated for egg laying purposes like chickens, ducks, and geese. She'll lay when she's ready.

Ive got an IB pied hen that laid her 13th egg tonight in a row. She did this last year for 30+. Shes the only hen Ive ever had do that, too bad shes not a Green and in case anyone is wondering, her pen gets the extra fruits, veggies, and protein to supplement her.

Another question .how do I know if my male is breeding his girl .I have seen him display ?

You either have to wait for an egg or keep an eye out for trading. He will make a loud hiss and rush her and then they trade. The reason Im telling you is so you can listen for that hissing sound because the "transaction" happens really fast. If they are of breeding age chances are they have or are close depending on your climate. I hope this helps,

How about my female ?

Females can be difficult to tell the age. If you can get a close look at her face if she's ready to breed her face will get a blueish color sometimes faint yellow but will fade back to white when she is done with breeding. Your birds seem healthy, it's just going to be a waiting game. The hiss barkerg was referring to is very noticeable sound. Indian species I refer it to a squealing sound. It's fairly loud and short, and if you move fast enough you might be able to catch a glimpse of them breeding. My peacocks usually breed early morning or late evening when it's cooler instead of mid day when it's hot. That's when I see them breed. Sometimes you may never see it actually happen but when she lays, incubate them for about a week, candle them, and if you see veins you know he's doing his job. I will try to get a video of it but it's very hard because they tend to do it when you don't have a camera. I'll try to help out. barkerg you should post the video of your Spalding doing his hiss and rush. I'll try to make a video of my peafowl doing it but it may take a while. If you have a video of the Indian species post that one too.

Hope the link works. I dont have permission to load a video yet...

Are you posting from a computer or a phone? I think you should be able to embed videos on either.
