Well here is our first--it is definitely from the EE'er as it is a light blue. My kids had to bribe them with a bagel this morning but my daughter got her wish of our first egg to be laid on her birthday!! We are hoping that this will stimulate the other 7 feathered freeloaders to get to business!!
I can't believe I finally get to post a picture here!!!! My 21 girls are 20 weeks old today and I got the CUTEST little brown egg from one of them. I think it may be from one of the barred rocks but I truly don't know for sure. Whoever laid it is SUPER smart because she managed to lay it in the nesting box!
Here it is in the nesting box next to a wooden egg
In my hand...
And next to a white store bought egg (that I just bought today
I wasn't expecting anything, between the stressful moving day for them, dealing with all the commotion once home, then the torrential rainstorm we had for 3 hours last night... I figured they'd be off the layin for a day or so, heck a week would have been fully understandable!!!
But I got up late, and ran out to check them first thing.. stumbled over there, dodging pallets and rain puddles, not hardly awake and what did I see? 4 EGGS!!!
One is sorta mishapen
as yall can see in the pic, not sure what to do with it? I was so excited and happy, in my barely awake stupor, I grabbed a huge handful of cracked corn, and threw it in to em
Here's the eggs! Had to rinse em, since they laid em in the wet grass...
Congrats! Im sure the mis-shapen egg is just as good to eat! do you have laying boxes yet? if so lock them in the coop for a week and they should get the idea. if you want them laying in the grass, keep doing what your doing!
Actually, the kids LOVED the eggs, they were perfectly fine, just a bit funny lookin LOL!!!
THey had a temp laying box yesterday, its all in a medium sized triangular coop thats temp housing... not much, but I'd hoped it'd work for the night.... guess not!!
I made them a good sized laying box today... big enough for two, and they spent a lot of time investigating it, as did the Roo (he barely fit!!) So hopefully, in the morning, the eggs are in the laying box, in the fresh pine shavings!
