Oh I know how you feel. When I came in yesterday holding my first eggs to my chest, bouncing up and down saying how happy I was, my mom just looked at me and said, "They are eggs hon. It's really not that big of a deal." I get so excited when I go out to the coop. It's like having an Easter egg hunt every day.

My D'uccles just started laying too, much to my sheer delight seeing as they should /hopefully/ be fertile if Boo is doing his job.

I will add photos of "the egg" tomorrow!

Question though!

She pushed away all the shavings and laid the egg on the wooden bottom. I did not have a wooden egg in the box she laid the egg in so I put some of the shavings back in the bottom under the "egg" ( I feel like removing it and bronzing it) and left the egg hoping that the other 4 girls will follow her and lay some eggs tomorrow since there was already an egg in the nest. Is it normal for them to lay eggs on wood? Regardless, I am just ecstatic that she had the egg in the box. I just finished the nest boxes yesterday. I was planning on getting some wooden eggs this week. I think I still will so they will always know where to lay the eggs.

I swear I'll send pics, but I gotta tell you this... today I found 3 little egges behind DH's compressor on the garage floor and one on his workbench (chest high), yesterday nothing, Sunday there was one laying on the ground sort of under the travel trailer, and Sat. there were 3 up where they roost. These are 3.5 mo old white leghorns, 8 of them plus, we don't know how many are roos vs. pullets???!!! Crazy, however, they are getting bigger. So now, How do i get them to lay in the same spot???

Must be the week for laying! Both of my hens layed their first eggs yesterday too! I have a black banty named Lola, but a couple days ago I caught "her" crowing away in the garage, so I guess it's now a Louie :p

Definitely the week for egg laying!!! Now, even my cute GLP Lennie that is exactly the same age as Lola (20 weeks and 2 days) laid her first egg yesterday. And what a precious little egg she laid! She made a lot of ruckus for several hours before she eventually disappeared in the nest box at 2:30 PM. After that I didn't hear a peep anymore until I went looking again around 3:45 PM. The bunch of 4 was just lazing around in their favorite shady place out in the run. Lennie never announcend that she actually laid that egg despite that she was driving everybody nuts with her screeching before. Funny chicken she is!

I got my first few this week too! They are from my Silver Cuckoo Marans (I confirmed that today). I found two eggs Tuesday and then this morning got a third.

Yipee! I just got my first egg from one of my pullets yesterday (july 21, 2010). It was from my 5 month old Buff Orpington. She was making really loud noises, and then a couple hours later there was the incredibly tiny egg!! I just cant figure out how to add pictures, otherwise I would!!
