Buffy *finally* laid her first egg! Whee!

And here it is frying in a pan.

The whites were a little thin at the edges, but the shell was perfect!

On October 8th that is actually my oldest daughters birthday we were presented with 2 eggs from 2 of my 4 red sex link chickens. They are actually almost 23 weeks old. It took me by surprise they did not lay the eggs in the nice chicken coop and laying box's that my DH made for them but rather laid them in the yard. I only found them by mistake when I heard one of my girls making a loud squaking noise that sounded like someone was killing her and rushed to see what was happening and when I got close to her there behind her was a beautiful small brown egg that was still warm. What a wonderful day.

MY FIRST-A bit small, but perfect! I am so psyched!!! 22 Weeks and 4 days later... Not sure which girl gave me this beautiful specimen. I have Golf Balls in the nest boxes, but someone left it on the floor of my run. I suspect it was one of my RIRs.
Will they catch on? or should I do something more? Not much I can do really - they don't lay on demand...

One lesson I learned the hard way..be sure to have a lid on the nest boxes so they get a closed in feeling when they laid eggs. My hens would break their eggs and lay them on the floor because I took the lid off of their hen boxes. I thought they would have more room to get in but they sure didn't want to use it anymore!

out of five girls, i got two first eggs on the same day! all of my girls are different breeds but these eggs look exactly the same. i was even joking that maybe she tried extra hard and gave us two

My Barred Rock pullet's first egg was a doooooozy! Long and skinny!! Next to another pullet's egg that is "normal" length lol
