Finally got my first egg from my RSL's on Sept 4 . They are 21 weeks old now, and have laid every day since the first Her first egg weighed in at 2 oz, the exact same weight as the store-bought ones! Now I just wish the Barred Rocks would get with the program! I keep threatening them with freezer camp, but they are ignoring me! I really dont' want to have to buy eggs any more.

Beautiful eggs!!! way bigger than mine! lol here's hoping they get bigger - ooooorrr stay this tiny and create a whole slew of magical mini EEs

What I find interesting, and it is borne out in this thread, is the wide variety of shapes the eggs come in. Even in my own flock of 4, the shapes are all unique. The two RSL's are nearly identical, but not quite and near a normal commercial egg shape. The Wyandotte's are smaller and more rounded, but with a huge yolk and little albumen. The EE's are more pointed, and gaining in size over the weeks, but still smaller than the RSLs.

We have been getting eggs for 7 days now, and my Golden Sex Link has been laying every day for 7 days. Two of my other girls started laying as well. From left to right :RIR, GSL, mystery egg. They are so pretty, and I couldnt believe the first time I ate one, how incredibly delicious they are!

My Barred Rock Hens gave me these first two eggs on Thursday, September 13, 2012. I have never raised chickens before so this is exciting!

Quote: How many are laying? That is a good looking collection of eggs. Congrats!

Im not 100% sure. I know my GSL, Barred Rock, one of my Buff Orpingtons, and at least two RIR. I have 20 all together. so possibly 5? I got 5 eggs today, but there might be a 6th that didnt lay today...I have caught 5 in the act, and my 5 year old got to witness an egg being layed today. He thought that was pretty cool.
Thank you BTW....We are very happy that we are getting eggs now!

First egg yesterday! The one on the right is "homegrown" the left is commerical. So excited. Have no idea which chicken since we have a mix of breeds that lay brown (RIR, NH and SLW) Whoever it was it was her 20th week birthday present to us!
