Ah! Seems she found her crayon. Nice little tan egg. Yesterday's and today's. My daughter stood vigil this morning - seems it's her favorite out of the 7 who is laying first! Smart girl - chose the calmest and sweetest, now first laying as her favorite.

Stop the presses!! Its happened! Almost exactly 5 months after we started on this journey with 1 day old chicks.....I found OUR FIRST EGG in the nest box this afternoon!! SO exciting! One of our araucana's laid this perfect little egg. Not sure which one (we have 2.)









I have it sitting next to a store bought egg in the picture to give perspective of how petite it is. I figure we only need 234,577 more to break even on the expense to generate it. HA!

No matter though, so worth it.

I didn't stop smiling for about 6 hours, and then it made me smile every time I thought about it, and then I also smile every day when she does it again. It's crazy how much fun this is. Congratulations! Very pretty!

I'm just curious - does the EE have a pea comb or straight? I'm sure your other EEs will have some different crayons in their boxes! It's a very pretty white egg though.

That's interesting. I'm in VA - maybe it's the air? hahahha!! It's a light tan now, at least not just white - again interesting. In any case, it's fun - I've only owned fully laying mature hens. This is my first experience raising chicks. It's nice to see a little progress. The first hundred dollar eggs! woot!

my wellie/black maran hen's egg are getting darker everyday. at first it was a really light brown with white speckles on it. but they all are beautiful! i am excitedly waiting for our ee's to start laying. loving all the different shades of eggs we will be getting!! *doing the happy dance*

Yesterday, after dinner while taking the chickens their slop bucket my daughter and I found our very first egg! I did a happy dance all night last night. My daughter is eating her eggs and bacon as I type this. Cant wait for many more eggs! We have 12 hens and one rooster because he was too beautiful to eat. My daughter and I smashed up oyster shells last week and put them in the coupe. The egg this morning was nice and thick! I just want to thank you all for your priceless information. the golf balls in the nests were a life saver as well since our chickens are free range right now. The pictures are my daughter right now, the egg next to a store bought large egg, the suspected egg layer, the egg in my daughters hand and the egg in the box next to the small woofle balls we bought. thank you, thank you! We're having so much fun.

Hello everyone! This morning I got my first chicken egg!!!! One of my EE girls laid it a few feet from their coop ramp soo happpyyy for this since I had a little let down when one my my ducks laid an egg & has since to lay another
Here are my EE girls and the little egg( next to a large store bought egg) I am unsure of their age (I am guessing between 18-22wks now??) this picture of them is a few weeks old
